NetherRealm Studios has confirmed thatMortal Kombat 1won’t feature any character variations, but it thankfully will see the return of Brutalities.Ever since Mortal Kombat 1 was first announced,it’s raised a surprising amount of questions regarding its story, characters, and gameplay mechanics. While the wholetimeline reset thing has been made a lot clearer with some of the recent trailers and gameplay footage, the focus on Kameos and the fate of returning mechanics have been left a little more vague.Related:There Has Never Been A Better Time For Mileena To Get A Happy EndingThankfully, after debuting its gameplay at Summer Game Fest just a few days ago,NetherRealmhas been more open about how Mortal Kombat 1 plays and confirmed more specific details. Over on Twitter, the official Mortal Kombat account has been answering questions submitted by fans about how the game plays, revealing some features from past games that will and won’t make a return.[EMBED_TWITTER]https://twitter.com/MortalKombat/status/1667323544601243648[/EMBED_TWITTER]Let’s start off with the bad news first - character variations are no longer a thing. Mortal Kombat X introduced a feature where each character had three variations with a few specific moves for each form, which was expanded upon inMortal Kombat 11with a more customisable and open moveset. That’s seemingly been removed altogether from Mortal Kombat 1, as the Twitter account confirmed that each character will have one moveset each. The reasoning behind this is that the Kameo system has “replaced the variation mechanic”, making it clear once again how important the new feature is to Mortal Kombat 1. In fact, the Twitter account also confirmed that Kamoes can’t be turned off and will be active in every type of fight, so you better get used to them. At least they all have their own Fatalities.[EMBED_TWITTER]https://twitter.com/MortalKombat/status/1667321731974062082[/EMBED_TWITTER]Speaking of Fatalities, the good news is that it’s been confirmed that Brutalities will be making a comeback in Mortal Kombat 1, after having been featured in both Mortal Kombat X and Mortal Kombat 11. We haven’t seen any of them in action so far (likely because they’re still quite hard to pull off and need specific combos),but the Twitter account did reveal that they’re in there, saying, “Oh yes. We couldn’t have MK without Brutalities”.Those two comments clear up quite a lot about Mortal Kombat 1’s gameplay, but there is one central mechanic that’s still up in the air -the gear system. Debuting in Mortal Kombat 11, the gear system allowed players to customise their heroes just like in Injustice 2, but it’s nowhere to be seen just yet and hasn’t been mentioned by NetherRealm. We know skins are in, but it seems that the gear system might have been left behind this time around.Next:All The Games You Missed At Summer Game Fest
