The previous twoMortal Kombatgames haven’t been great for Mileena. Getting a bizarre redesign in Mortal Kombat X, the rebooted timeline was never quite sure what to do with her teeth. While they went pretty much back to normal inMortal Kombat 11, the whole thing sparked a debate on what Mileena’s fangs should look like. And all in all, it seems like fans want her to look as grotesque as possible. Needless to say, Mileena stans were blown away by her brief appearance in aMortal Kombat 1trailer yesterday. In a quick look at the Edenian princess, we can see that the devs havereallyramped up the horror with Mileena’s new look. With a Predator-like tongue and far more teeth than could realistically fit in anyone’s mouth, we’re certainly far from her more conventionally attractive look in MKX - something that has relieved fans everywhere.Related:There Has Never Been A Better Time For Mileena To Get A Happy EndingAll over Twitter, it’s hard to find anyone in the Mileena hive that’s dissatisfied with her new fangs Truly, they’re like nothing we’ve seen in any of her previous incarnations, so it’s surprising to see the look become so popular so quickly.
One eagle-eyed fan even noticed that the redesign appears to be based on concept art from Mortal Kombat X, which was ditched in favour of a less-toothy appearance. It’s possible thatNetherRealmsaw themixed reception to Mileena having lips, and decided to go with the more horror-influenced direction as a result. And I love that for her. Let her be a bit freaky - she deserves it.
While I don’t think many of us were expecting this exact design from NetherRealm, it’s not surprising to see her get a new look for the new timeline. Mortal Kombat 1 will, once again, reboot everyone’s backstories, retconning the reason why Mileena looks the way she does. Now, she’s Kitana’s (slightly older) twin sister, and developed her hellish fangs after contracting the Tarkat disease. This is a new invention for Mortal Kombat 1, with the affliction borrowing its name from the Tarkata race - the same race that Mileena shared DNA with as a Kitana clone in the original two timelines.
But even with all the changes being made to everyone’s characters, Mileena’s mouth is only getting freakier - and fans love it. It remains to be seen how she uses it in kombat. Because surely, that thing can pull off some sick fatalities.
