MultiVersusis about to shut down its open beta and go offline until 2024 and fans are saying goodbye to the game by sharing clips and hopes for the future.

Last year, after a disappointingly empty second season and near-silence about the future of MultiVersus,Player First Games controversially revealed that it was soon going to be taking the Warner Bros. crossover fighter offline until 2024so that it had more time to work on the game and introduce heavily-requested features. That announcement was made all the way back in March and the time has finally come for the game to be temporarily put on the shelf.

That’s right, today marks the last day of service for MultiVersus' open beta, meaning that anyone who purchased the game will now have to wait until an unspecified date in 2024 when it relaunches. In honour of the day, many MultiVersus players have been taking to social media to say goodbye to the game.

As pointed out by Twitter user multiversusie, both #RiseofMultiversus and #Multiversus24 were trending on Twitter over the weekend thanks to all of the messages from fans before the game shuts down. Checking out the tags shows a lot of clips from online battles, wishlists for characters, and players justwishing Player First Games well with the game’s development.

Meanwhile, the MultiVersus subreddit is full of posts from players sharing what characters they want to seeand features introduced when the game returns in 2024,with some even sharing their favourite memories from the open beta. Considering the circumstances, there’s a surprisingly good vibe going on in there, as many seem excited about the game’s future.

Of course, notallof the goodbye messages are quite so positive. After all,the shutdown of MultiVersus was a very unpopular announcement for many of the game’s fans, and not all of them are celebrating the situation. Over on Reddit, many of the posts leading up to the game’s shelving have expressed annoyance at the situation, with Redditor EverydayWuz sharing a meme of Andy throwing away MultiVersus and saying he doesn’t want to play it anymore.

Many players have also suggested that there’s a chance that MultiVersus just doesn’t come back at all with how poorly Warner Bros. has been doing lately. That, combined with how many big fighting games are launching between now and 2024, has some thinking that this isn’t a temporary goodbye and will end up being permanent. There’s no evidence of this just yet, but considering the sudden shutdown, it’s understandable that some have mixed feelings.

Still, considering all of the negativity that the announcement brought, it seems that there’s mostly a positive vibe from the MultiVersus community as it says goodbye today, one that will hopefully carry over to when the game eventually relaunches. See you all in 2024.
