Lollipop Chainsaw andNo More Heroesdeveloper Grasshopper Manufacture has created a new website titled “grasshoppermanufacture25th.com”, evidently celebrating its anniversary. Right now, it’s a simple block of yellow with GM’s logo, the words “Something’s gonna happen”, and a timer counting down to June 15.While we don’t know what the “Something” is, it’s likely a reveal forthe upcoming Lollipop Chainsaw remakethat was announced last year just after its tenth anniversary. That same month, we found out thatSuda51 and James Gunn aren’t involvedthis time, and that it’s supposed to launch this year.RELATED:I Hope Lollipop Chainsaw’s Remake Doesn’t Change How I Feel About ItInterestingly, June 15 is after Summer Games Fest, and that date doesn’t line up with any of the other showcases, taking place two days after the last one, Xbox Games Showcase Extended, wraps up. It’s likely that, if this is Lollipop Chainsaw’s remake, it won’t be announced during any of the streams this week. Regardless, in ten days, we might finally see what it looks like.
Of course, Grasshopper Manufacturer has developed plenty of other games. There are No More Heroes, LET IT DIE, BLOOD+ One Night Kiss, killer7, and Shining Soul to name a few, and since no game is mentioned on the website, it could be anything that’s announced. If that’s what “Something” even means. It’s all very cryptic. But given that Lollipop Chainsaw’s remake is set to launch this year, and we’re nearly halfway through 2023 with no news, it’s likely that “Something” is in reference to it.
The last update we got was in July of 2022 when Dragami Games president and original Lollypop Chainsaw producer Yoshimi Yasuda tweeted, “We would like to take the time to share our thoughts and intentions regarding the [remake]. The ideal thing to do would be to make a remastered version of the original game.”
However, due to licensing issues, 16 songs from the original can’t be used, so Yasuda said that the team is"instead aiming for a remake that is as close as possible to a remaster.“This means the Lollipop Chainsaw remake won’t alter the original’s story, Juliet’s design, or the overall aesthetic, as Yasuda states that the remake will mostly “make use of the advanced rendering technology available in current game consoles.”
It sounds like we can expect a graphical update to bring the original in line with current-gen games, but not a complete overhaul as withResident Evil 4 RemakeorFinal Fantasy 7. Beyond that, we don’t know much, but maybe we’ll find out next week.
