For months now, I’ve been watching theFinal Fantasy 14community prepare for the first Fan Fest of 2023, which is taking place in Las Vegas this coming weekend. Niantic CEO John Hanke informed his employees this week that the company is sunsetting one game (NBA All-World), ending development on another (Marvel World of Heroes), and shuttering its LA studio. 230 game developers lost their jobs this week so that Niantic can “bring expenses and revenue back into line.” This, despiteNiantic telling Eurogamerin May that its revenue in 2023 was up over the previous year. I read Hanke’s email, which was posted to Niantic’sblog, and while I’m certainly no business analyst, it’s not hard to read between the lines here....

Everytime I think Blizzard can’t possibly screw up Overwatch 2 anymore, it finds a way to surprise me. Lately, the sequel no one wanted has been drawing ire from fans for canceling Hero Mode, the one thing about the sequel anyone did actually want. The messaging around the decision is so fractured and confusing that no one seems to realize that PvE story missions are still a thing, and the first one has just been announced with a $15 price tag, which has given players a new thing to be confused and/or upset about....

Yu-Gi-Oh!’s 25th anniversary Kaiba briefcase is now up for pre-orders for Europe, Africa, and Middle East regions. The all-metal briefcase is stylized to appear just as it did in the original manga, with a Kaiba Corp logo and a replica of Kaiba’s personal 61-card deck. It also includes three Blue Eyes White Dragons in a protective case. The limited-edition collector’s item firstwent on sale back in 2021 as a Japan-exclusive item....
