Pokemonreleases were pretty reliable for a spell. Ever sincePokemon FireRed and LeafGreen, we knew that after each big release, we could expect a remake of an older game in the latest engine. That all changed when it came to Gen 4, however, withBrilliant Diamond and Shining Pearlgoing for a vastly different artstyle than what was the most recent Gen at the time,Sword and Shield. Instead, most of the attention went to a spin-off like nothing we’d seen before,Pokemon Legends: Arceus.

Now, fans think the devs are dropping hints that Gen 5 will get the same treatment. Over on Twitter, fans who follow the series closely have been diving into news on theScarlet & VioletDLC for clues, and believe they’ve uncovered proof that Unovo will get its own Legends-like spin-off. This would continue the recent trend of 3D open-world Pokemon games, straying from what we got inPokemon Black and Whiteback in 2010.

It all kicked off earlier this month when Pokemon leaker Riddler Khu said that one of the characters from an upcoming Pokemon Scarlet & Violet DLC, The Indigo Disk, is a “big spoiler for the next game”. Naturally, fans jumped on the chance to decipher the clue, asspottedby ResetEra user Angie. Even if the fans are all coming out with different answers, most of them relate to Gen 5 - the next logical choice for Game Freak to explore.

The fact that Khu says the character would be part of the “lore” in the next game could also be a clue that it will be a Legends game, not a remake. In a remake, it’s unlikely that we’d see any story changes, and if we do, they’d likely be subtle. They’ve all been pretty faithful so far in any case. However, as we saw with Legends: Arceus, spin-offscanexpand the lore of a generation, allowing a character from the Scarlet & Violet DLC to make an appearance, or symbolise something that will be expanded upon.

Pokemon news account @soulsilverart seems to think so, anyway. They believe that this and other clues left by Khu point towards Legends: Unovo - or whatever it would be called. They also believe that Khu is hinting towards further exploration of the legendary dragon trio in Black and White: Reshiram, Zekrom, and Kyurem.

As the fan also highlights, Black and White’s themes of past and present, including changes to the region based on which version you picked up, would make for a great setting in a Legends game. Everyone seems pretty convinced by this theory, including Centro Leaks, who says we should “expect a Legends scale game”. Of course, nothing has been confirmed just yet, so we’ll have to wait for the devs to announce the next game to see if these theories are on the money.
