Get ready to take a stroll down Charizard Lane. A new housing development just outside Las Vegas has named a handful of streets after popularPokemoncharacters. Yes, you read that right, Pokemon-themed streets. People will soon be living on streets like Jigglypuff Place and Squirtle Lane. Just imagine explaining that address on your driver’s license the next time you get carded.

These comically cute street names were the idea of Andrea Miller, the construction administration manager for Harmony homes in Nevada. In aninterview with CBCabout the Poke-streets, she explains that the idea originated from her sons. As she tried to find names for the roads in her latest housing development, she would bounce ideas off her kids. Eventually, her eldest suggested using Pokemon and the rest is history.

Luckily, Pokemon was seeing a big resurgence in popularity at the time. Thanks in large part to the mobilePokemon Gogame. Together with her sons, Miller would go through the list of Pokemon from the app to use as street names. However, there was one Pokemon that was not considered: Pikachu. As Miller puts it, she didn’t want the names to be immediately recognizable as Pokemon, so the most well-known creature was off the list. Still, I think it will be hard not to mention you live on Jigglypuff Place or Squirtle Lane and people do not know what those names come from.

This is not the first time that Miller has drawn inspiration from popular culture when it comes to naming streets. Another of her developments in Vegas contains streets inspired by the children’s program Paw Patrol. This naming technique has gone over well with the children of the neighborhood, who get a kick out of the unconventional names like Rubble Avenue.

However, Pokemon is a more wide-reaching IP than Paw Patrol. Both children and adults will likely get a kick out of the iconic Pokemon popping up on street signs. Plus, it is a good way to get potential homebuyers into the neighborhood who may be enticed because they grew up with the game or bonded with their own children over it. While I personally enjoy the naming technique, it really puts a damper on those of us still living on streets named after some type of tree, flower, a number, or some old dude.

Of course, you don’t have to be the biggest Pokemon fan to enjoy these street names. Just imagine getting to write down the word Jigglypuff or Snorlax every time you write your address. If nothing else, it will be a great conversation starter.
