Ever since the game was first announced back in 2020, we’ve seen barely anything of Pragmata from either Capcom or PlayStation despite it having a release window of 2023. Well, that’s all changed thanks to the latest Capcom Showcase, as the developer has finally given us a new trailer, although it also came with an announcement that Pragmata has been indefinitely delayed.

Pragmata’s delay announcement occurs right at the end of the new trailer, as Capcom states that it “must further postpone the release of Pragmata”, and that it “needs more time” to make the game as good as it can be. Unlike the previous delay, Capcom doesn’t even give us an updated release window, suggesting it could be a lenghty delay and that we might even be waiting until at least 2025 to see a full release. Either that, or Capcom just wants to ensure it has enough time by not burdening itself with a release date to hit.

Onto the positive stuff now though, as we got a tiny bit of what looked like gameplay in this new trailer. It begins with an unnamed man fighting off a bunch of robots that appear to be after a young girl called Diana. The rest of the trailer then shows that we play as this unnamed man as he protects Diana from enemies. We see some fights between the player character and some little robots, and then a big ol' mech, before Diana pulls off some strange magic powers and the trailer cuts to black. It’s still far too little to get a decent picture of what the game is going to play like, but at least its something to soften the blow of the delay for those that were looking forward to it.

The only previous update we had on Pragmata’s development before today was the assurances from Capcom thatthe game is “making steady progress”, and that it might be taking a while because the developer’s younger employees have been assigned to development. Capcom is using the game as a chance for new developers to gain valuable skills working on a triple-A title, something that the developer has just a teeny bit of experience doing.

It was a bit more of a subdued showcase from Capcom this week after a bunch of exciting announcements from other developers. There were a couple of other highlights though, includingthe announcement of the Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney Trilogy, a collection of previously released Ace Attorney games, that is launching at some point in 2024. We also got some more details for dino-slaying shooter Exoprimal, includingthe reveal of a new mode for people that aren’t interested in PvP.
