Microsoft’strial vs the Federal Trade Commission may be over for now, but that hasn’t stopped even more industry secrets from spilling out all over the Internet. It’sSonythat’s found itself in the spotlight once again this time though, as some new court documents that have been released to the public has revealed that Microsoft believes Sony is planning to release its long rumoredPS5 Slimconsole later this year alongside its handheld streaming device Project Q.

First shared byIGN, this particular document was used to convince Judge Jacqueline Scott Corley that the Nintendo Switch is one of Xbox’s competitors in the market in an attempt to cement itself as an underdog. It’s later on that Microsoft claims that Sony is planning to release a PS5 Slim for $399.99, the same price as the PS5’s all-digital version, alongside Project Q that will sell for under $300.

“PlayStation likewise sells a less expensive Digital Edition for $399.99, and is expected to release a PlayStation 5 Slim later this year at the same reduced price point,” reads the document. “Sony is also anticipated to release a handheld version of PlayStation 5 later this year for under $300”.

This will probably comes as no shock to those that have been keeping up with all of the rumors surrounding the existence of a PS5 Slim, the most recent beinga patent for a detachable disc drive fueling speculation. A PS5 Slim was also reportedlyspotted on an Australian retail website, suggesting that Sony has plans to release the console at some point this year like Microsoft has claimed.

There’s also the fact that pretty much every generation ofPlayStationconsoles has seen a slim version released at some point, and there’s no indication that Sony will deviate from that pattern in this generation either. The only slightly surprising revelation from these court documents is that Sony is planning to release the system this year, which suggests that another PlayStation Showcase or State of Play could happen soon in which its officially announced.

We haven’t heard anything from Sony or PlayStation about the new console, though you’d expect to hear something official soon if the plan is to release it in 2023. At the very least, Microsoft may have just irritated a few bigwigs at PlayStation with this cheeky little reveal, though it’s worth noting that Microsoft obviously isn’t going to know about all of the inner workings of its biggest rival. Whether there’s any truth to what the company has claimed, all we can do is wait and see.
