Take-Two Interactive has filed a game rating classification in South Korea forRed Dead Redemption, which already has a rating in the country alongsideUndead Nightmare Collectionand GOTY Edition. That means that this is something new, possibly even a remaster finally bringing the original to current-gen platforms alongside its sequel.

This was first spotted byGematsuwho explains that the classification number “CC-NV-230615-001” refers to a console game. That’s because it includes “NV”, PC games are referred to as “NP”. The original Red Dead Redemption never came to PC, so this isn’t a long-awaited port, again adding fuel to the remaster speculation. However, if it is a remaster, that doesn’t rule it out from launching on PC as well.

Take-Two and Rockstar have not announced a Red Dead Redemption remaster, but interestingly enough, insider Tez2 claimedlast year that a “reliable source” told themGTA 4 and RDR remasters were “on the table a few years ago”. Rockstar reportedly did not pursue the idea any further. “The poor reception of the [GTA Trilogy] might be a reason behind that decision.”

According to Tez2, “The talks didn’t cease years ago. Remasters of [GTA 4] & RDR1 remained on the table even when the Trilogy launched. Decision to green-light full production wasn’t given just yet. Trilogy wasn’t doing well not just sales, butfan reception as well.”

It’s possible that plans have changed, and with it being the fifth anniversary of Red Dead Redemption 2 this year (yes, 2018 was five years ago–I’m sorry), Rockstar might have an announcement up its sleeve to celebrate. The one concern everyone has is who is behind this possible remaster. The rating doesn’t give us any clues, but fears of it being Grove Street Games again are circling given the infamously poor ports of the GTA Trilogy, making it one of the most notorious remasters since theSilent HillHD Collection.

“Its all fun and games until you see the Grove Street Games logo [skull emoji]”, Liudesys commented on a Reddit thread sharing the news.

“Grove Street Games haven’t touched anything built on RAGE and considering the mess they left R* they probably never will,” nickelbackvocaloid said.

Of course, there is a second possibility. We don’t know what console “NV” is in reference to. The assumption many have made is that it’s PS4 and Xbox One or PS5 and Xbox Series, perhaps both. It’s also entirely possible that this rating is for a Switch port, bringing Red Dead Redemption to handheld.
