Red Dead Redemption was rated in South Korea again yesterday, sparking rumours of a remaster or remake. Leakers claimed that GTA 4 and RDR remasters were in development but these were allegedly shelved followingthe poor reception to the GTA Trilogy. However, according to Rockstar-dedicated news reporter Ben (@videotechx), RDR’s website domain was updated on May 26, coinciding with the new rating–something is cooking behind the scenes.

Further fueling the remake rumour fires is a part of the rating that was noticed by@seinfelddahog.They highlighted that “this version of Red Dead Redemption has a new rating descriptor for gore that’s only ever been given to three other games: Doom, Doom Eternal and Red Dead Redemption 2.” The original game and Undead Nightmare only listed “realistic blood”. The updated RDR may use the sequel’s dismemberment system, which would mean it’s on the same engine and is, therefore, a remake.

Kotakualso reported that Rockstar understands there’s an “overwhelming demand” for the original Red Dead Redemption’s return. ReporterZack Zwiezen, who also covered the GTA Trilogy before its announcement, was told that “the RDR1 remaster wasn’t dead, justtaking a pauseuntil closer/after GTA6’s launch”. This means two things–a Red Dead Redemption remaster, port, or remake is underway again, and GTA 6 is finally nearing launch.

It’s worth noting that after the GTA Trilogy leaked on the Korean rating board, there was only an eight-day wait until Rockstar Games officially announced it, so we might not have to wait long to find out what’s happening with Red Dead Redemption.

The rating also includes “NV” which means it’s for console, not PC. This initially led people to believe that we were either getting a current-gen port, a Switch port, a remaster, or a remake. Whatever it turns out to be, this rating doesn’t mean that it won’t ever come to PC.

Currently, the only way to play Red Dead Redemption is via PS3 or Xbox 360. If you want to play it on the current-gen, it’s available via Xbox One and Series' backward compatibility, meaning you can pick up both RDR and Undead Nightmare on the Microsoft Store. If you’re on a PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, or PC, there are no ways to access it right now. It was originally available to stream via PS Plus, but interestingly, the option was removed last year. Maybe Rockstar was anticipating a better way to try it–we’ll have to wait and see.
