Arkane’s new multiplayer vampire-killing looter shooterRedfallis off to a terrible start. It’sArkane’s lowest-rated gameby a mile withmostly negative reviews on Steam. A large part of that boils down to terrible technical performance on all platforms, with poor visuals and bad framerates as the key complaints. Throw in abysmalAIthat can’t figure out how to get around a wooden box, and you may see why fans are upset. On top of that, there are some truly hilarious bugs being discovered that provide us with a glimpse at just how unpolished Redfall is.Related:Redfall Is The Latest Example Of Games Chasing Dead TrendsTake this screenshot from Reddit userTrueOni. They’re on a roof, attempting to infiltrate a home to murder some vampires, cultists, or both, and they thought that they could pull a Santa Claus and dive in through the chimney. Little did they know that chimneys in Redfall are just for show. When they’re notliterally floating off the housesthey’re supposed to be attached to, that is.
Or how about this post from userAequitas123? They’re trying to scope out an apartment complex using their sniper, but they can’t actually see through the scope. It looks like the rifle is coming up in the player’s view like a regular gun instead of presenting them with a view through a clear scope. No sniping for you, Aequitas123.
And then there’s this one from userLeymourwhere they spot the exact same corpse spawned ten seconds away from each other. Same shirt, same hat, same shoes, same strangely oversized hands, and same twin puncture marks on the neck. The only difference between these two corpses is the blood-spatter texture beneath them. They could be twins, but it’s more likely that Arkane didn’t have time to ensure corpses wouldn’t spawn duplicates.
Here’s a screen that showedeven the localization teams might have been rushed. The text all runs into everything else, so you have no idea what it’s supposed to say.
There are more mundane bugs as well. Here we have a case of eithera texture failing to loador a texture that didn’t exist in its high-fidelity form. Here we have a case of theAI failing to recognize its own death(although it did eventually recognize its own physics), and here we have a bizarre case where a player should have died, but actually tooka solid ten seconds to finally croak. Note that they were actually dead the whole time as they were unable to fire their assault rifle, they just hadn’t keeled over yet.
All of these examples taken together are pretty damning.Just like Cyberpunk 2077 a few years ago, Redfall appears to have launched in a pretty poor state that will likely take months or possiblyeven years to fix. Arkane has remained silent since Redfall’s launch yesterday, so we don’t know if there’s a plan to get Redfall back on track.
