Mortal Kombathype is pretty high right now asmore of the next game in the series was shown off at Summer Game Fest. Now feels like a good time to remind all of those eagerly awaitingMortal Kombat 1’s arrival that there’s a new movie in the works as well, and it appears to have just cast a very fitting actor for the role of Shao Khan.

According toMattMcmuscles, whose Twitter handle alone suggests they’d be the go-to person on this sort of thing, bodybuilder-turned-actor Martyn Ford has been deemed the right man for the job. Just in case you’re unfamiliar with Ford, a couple of photos of the live-action Shao Khan have been attached and yeah, the actor definitely looks the part.

Despite Ford’s intimidating demeanor, apparently he’s a pretty nice guy. Always good to hear when you find out someone has been cast in a movie you’re excited about and in the role of a character you love. Most of the replies to the tweet below appear to be pretty positive about the casting decision too, largely because finding someone who actually looks like Khan in real life appeared to be an impossible task until now.

If you fancy getting to know Ford and his abilities as an actor a little better ahead of Mortal Kombat 2, or you’re trying to place where you’ve seen him before, then this is yet another excuse to watch the Fast & Furious movies if you haven’t already. Ford played Lieutenant Sue in F9: The Fast Saga. He was also Squatterbloat inNetflix’s The Sandman and played a Glastonbury Guard in Kingsman sequel, The Golden Circle.

Since roles for Mortal Kombat 2 are still being cast, it’s probably going to be a while before we see anything from the movie. We still don’t officially know who is going to play Johnny Cage, althoughit seems very likely Karl Urban has landed the role. That’s despiteWWE Superstars The Miz and Cody Rhodesseemingly being in the running withthe former even getting Ed Boon’s approvalat one point.

Back in Mortal Kombat’s video game realm things are a little more pressing. Mortal Kombat 1 launches this September and will continue a year that has been absolutely fantastic for fighting games. Some of its fighters have been officially revealed already, but if you do want to know who else will be in the game, the full roster may have leakedearlier this week.
