Spider-Man fans might have thought that they’d escaped the infamous image of Peter and Miles standing in an alleyway from the Spider-Man 2 reveal trailer, but it’s invaded real-life thanks to a photo opportunity at San Diego Comic-Con.
As the Spider-Man community patiently waits for the sequel’s release later this year, it’s been coping with a ton of different memes, ranging fromroasting Uncle Aaron’s awful beatsto trying to figure out canon events from Across the Spider-Verse. By far the biggest meme of them all, however,is how sick the community is of seeing that one static image of Peter and Miles standing in an alleyway from the Spider-Man 2 reveal trailer.

That image was pretty much the only one that Sony used to advertise the game up until the State of Play gameplay reveal, showing up on the back of comic books, in TV ads for the PS5, and even used as memes by Insomniac itself.Over time, the hatred of the image has slowly turned into an ironic love and, while everyone thought we’d managed to get away from it with new footage having since been released, it looks like it’s never truly going to be gone.
Not only is the image making a grand comeback, but this time it’s actually inreal life. Spider-Man 2 will be having a panel at San Diego Comic-Con later today and, since it’s making an appearance at the show,it has a dedicated section at the Marvel booth that lets you take a photo next to life-size versions of Peter and Miles next to that same iconic alleywaywhile Venom’s head peeks out around the corner.
Insomniac is once again aware of the memes and playing into them here as it not only says that the booth allows for fans to “recreate an iconic moment”, but it also responded to comments about the shot saying that it"will make sure" that the no one can escape the imageand that it’s “latched on tighter than the symbiote on a suit”.
As you can imagine, the Spider-Man PS4 subreddit is absolutely loving the photo opportunity, with several fans taking photos with it at San Diego Comic-Con and sharing it with the group, joking that they’re in the screenshotorsaying, “Miles, we’re actually real”. Considering the genuine frustration at the shot before the big gameplay reveal, it’s nice to see it swing back around to something positive that’s uniting the community and being something that everyone can have some fun with.
Seriously though, Sony, never use the same image so many times in a row again.
