Whilelast week’s PlayStation Showcase didn’t please everyone, what it did demonstrate isPlayStationhas a lot of its eggs in theSpider-Man 2basket right now. What PlayStation probably won’t want to hear is some of you already have half an eye on what might be coming next. As for what you want to see fromInsomniac’s Spiderverse, a few fans want to go backward on its timeline rather than forward.

Ironsmashwebmade theSpider-Manprequel suggestion on Reddit, even mocking up a cover for the make-believePS5game. On it are a number of heroes you meet in the first Spidey game, plus some you don’t, including Mysterio. The Spider-Man fan suggests the prequel be similar in scope to Arkham Origins, the prequel that launched between City andKnightin the critically acclaimed Arkham trilogy.

The suggestion appears to be that the game would fill what is likely to be a sizable gap between Spider-Man 2 and 3, if there is even going to be a 3. Similar toMiles Morales, an origin game for Insomniac’s Peter Parker would presumably be slightly smaller and use the same map, but it would make the wait for a big new game a little easier to deal with.

A lot of you have suggested an Origins game actually be pretty similar to Miles Morales. That you assume the role of a younger Peter as he tries to get to grips with his new powers. While a few players think that might be a little boring, suggestions include running out of web fluid as Peter won’t have figured out some of the science behind it, and that the blows which would typically knock out villains don’t pack quite as much of a punch.

It’s also worth noting the Arkham trilogy’sRocksteadydidn’t develop Origins, another trait of the game some fans have suggested be imitated for a potential Spider-Man prequel. Perhaps a daunting task for the studio that takes it on, but a chance for one of the other developers under the PlayStation umbrella to make something special while Insomniac focuses on the next flagship Spider-Man game, not to mentionWolverinewhich ispresumably still coming at some point in 2024.

While PlayStation and Insomniac likely already have an idea of where their Spidey series is going next, all focus is on the sequel for now which launches this fall. The biggest reveal last week was Peter’s new symbiote suit as fans have beendebating whether it was created by an alien connection or Oscorp tech.
