Street Fighter 6is another big hit fromCapcom, continuing the publisher’s streak of great games released over the past few years. Critics have already named SF6 as one of the strongest releases of 2023, and now it’s time for players to enjoy the game. So far, many are doing so, as evidenced by the impressive player numbers on PC.
Shortly after Street Fighter 6 launched onSteam, the game unsurprisingly attracted significantly more players than any other game in the series, including Street Fighter 5. At the time of writing, SF6peakedat 70,573 concurrent players on the platform — and that was just within the first hours after the game’s release. It is possible than even more players will join the ranks of street fighters over the weekend, further pushing the game’s current record.

With such impressive numbers, Street Fighter 6 is leaving far behind other notable examples of the fighting genre from the past few years, like Mortal Kombat 11 (which peaked at 35,147 players) and Tekken 7 (which peaked at 18,966 players). Of course, it’s important to note that both of these titles were released some time ago. It will be interesting to see the upcoming competition between Street Fighter 6, Mortal Kombat 1, and Tekken 8, as both of these games are expected to launch before the end of this year.
However, it appears that Street Fighter 6 won’t surpass thesimultaneous player count achieved by MultiVersuslast year, which exceeded 150,000 players. Without a doubt, the Warner Bros. fighting game belongs to another league due to its free-to-play model, therefore, it would be somewhat unfair to directly compare these titles in terms of player numbers.
Not only are many players opting to try Street Fighter 6, but they also appear to be captivated by what Capcom has to offer with the game. While there aren’t many user reviews available on Steam at the moment, the overall user scores for the fighting gameareconsistently ‘very positive’, with 84 percent of players providing positive feedback based on their experience. In summary, it is a remarkably smooth launch, particularly considering the underwhelming state in which many recent PC games have arrived.
In our Street Fighter 6 review, lead news editor George Fosterawarded it the highest score, which doesn’t happen very often here. “All the advancements in online play, accessibility, and its core fighting mechanics make this a defining moment for fighting games,” he wrote, suggesting that other developers in the genre will be chasing SF6’s qualities for years to come. Now, let’s see what the upcoming Mortal Kombat 1 and Tekken 8 have in store to treat their fans.
