Those of you who’ve playedThe Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wildwill know that’s it’s jam-packed with references to past Zelda games, usually in the form of unique clothing or other little cosmetics that you can obtain through Amiibo. You won’t be surprised to hear thatTears of the Kingdomis exactly the same, though you may spot one new reference a lot quicker than some others. There’s a truly bizarre nod to Link’s Awakening tucked away in several caves across Hyrule, and this isyour only warning that there are spoilers ahead.

First shared byIGN, you’ll meet a fashionista called Misko at some point in your journey, who gives you a quest which will lead you to three different caves. Each of these contains one piece of an outfit that is a reference to Link’s Awakening, which includes a shirt, some bottoms, and a headpiece. It’s the latter item that will have you turning heads though, as putting on the mask you find will give you a comically large version of Link’s head from Link’s Awakening.

“Legend says this mask resembles a hero who explored a mysterious island that one could visit but not leave,” reads the mask’s description. “The item makes one want to wear it but also not wear it”. It’s giving off a bit of a sinister vibe considering it’s a big, goofy helmet of a chibi version of Link, but soaring through the skies of Hyrule like that is surely worth Link suffering just a little bit of mental distress.

If you think that this the most ridiculous thing you’re going to see in Tears of the Kingdom, you’ve clearly underestimated any gaming community when they’re given complete creative control of a set of tools. For example, take thishuge stone golem equipped with a flamethrowing wangthat someone’s managed to put together with the game’s new Ultrahand ability. This utter abomination was shared on launch day too, meaning it took less than 24 hours for Zelda fans to start being rude with their new abilities. Forshame.

In other adorable new additions to Tears of the Kingdom, the game also seems to imply at multiple points thatLink and Zelda are in a proper relationship. While not explicitly stated, there are several hints around Link’s former house in Hateno Village that fans have been using to make the case. For starters, several NPCs now refer to the house as Zelda’s house instead of Link’s, yet bits of his clothing can be found scattered around the place. Zelda also has a dining set for two, and that the bed in the house is the only one in Hateno Village that Link can actually sleep in.
