Tears of the Kingdom’s launch is just a week away, but if you simply can’t wait that long, there are alternatives, andI’m not talking about the leaks. Despite not even hitting the shelves yet, the next instalment inThe Legend of Zeldaseries already has a copycat game, a mobile title called Kung Fu Saga. And if you really want to play it for some reason, I’d do it now beforeReggie Fils-Amie tweets the creators of the gameand scares them into wiping every last trace of it from the face of the Earth.
The clip, which appears to be an ad, has been shared on Tears of the Kingdom’s subreddit. It shows its own Link using a shameless copy-and-paste version of the knight’s new ability in the sequel, Recall, to ascend to a sky dungeon. There the faux Link battles a baddie and reaps the rewards. The ad ends there, and if I know anything about mobile ripoffs of games that already exist, or in this case one that will launch next week, Kung Fu Saga’s gameplay will look nothing like it does in the video below.

In fact, someone in the replies to the post has confirmed that to be the case. “It’s indeed top-down and there’s no jumping or gliding involved except for some scripted transitions. So yeah, this looks nothing like TotK,”Gawlf85explains. In fairness, even though the full game would naturally not compare to whateverNintendohas cooked up, it would be pretty impressive if even a rip-off could look and play that well.
It’ll be a matter of days, if not hours, before Nintendo gets wind of what’s going on here and promptly stamps it out. As far as I can tell, Kung Fu Saga has experience in that arena, though. You might be thinking Kung Fu Saga is a weird name for a game mimicking one that has nothing to do with kung fu. That’s because the game used to be called Avatar Saga and had Aang as its protagonist. Note the continued inclusion of the character in its logo.
I would personally recommend waiting for the real Tears of the Kingdom. It has been six years sinceBreath of the Wild, surely another week isn’t going to kill us? Nintendo continues to drip-feed new information about the sequel too, keeping us just happy enough that we don’t tear our hair out. The latest reveal was thatHyrule now has gacha machines. Don’t panic, Tears of the Kingdom isn’t going to be pay-to-play. Its giant gumball machines are powered by new items called zonai charges, and using them rewards you with items that help Link build some of the contraptions we’ve seen in the game’s trailers.
