You’d expect someone like Jack Black to have at least a passing familiarity with video games, given that he’splayed Bowser in the highly successful Mario movie, andhe’ll portray Claptrap in the upcoming Borderlands movie. But according to Tenacious D’s latest music video, Black actually doesn’t play video games.

“I don’t play video games no more, never play video games,” sings the multi-talented Black. “Except for a little bit of God of War, I never play video games.”

Black’s list of exceptions to what games he doesn’t play grows to include Fallout 4, Sonic the Hedgehog, and Red Dead Redemption 2 in short order. Meanwhile, a beady-eyed version of Tenacious D band mate Kyle Gass gets continuously murdered in ever more gruesome ways, first by a giant from God of War, then torn apart by a Deathclaw, and then shot in the unmentionables during the Red Dead Redemption segment.

Black goes on to cosplay as Link, Ryu, Minecraft Steve, Lara Croft, Kratos, Team Fortress 2’s Scout, Mega Man, and Mario, although Black’s rendition of Mario includes a very interesting mushroom at about 57 seconds into the video. Not that I was playing it in slow motion or anything.

Black seemed to have the most to say about Red Dead Redemption 2, a game which he seems to have a particular affinity for.

“But Red Dead REdemtpion 2, that is not a game, it’s an incredible journey through American history, fightin' for your life and fightin' for your family,” he sang, “That’s not a game, that’s an adult thing.”

The video ends with Gass getting decapitated by Arthur Morgan’s hat in the style of Mortal Kombat’s Kung Lao.

Black has gone on the record saying thathe wants to star in a Red Dead Red Redemption movie or TV show. In a recent interview with the BBC, Black was all praise for HBO’s The Last of Us live-action adaptation, saying how much he loved “how loyal it is to the original source material.” And then he went on to not-so-subtly hint at what HBO maybe should adapt next.

“And there are some great games that have yet to be explored in television or film,” he said. “Maybe there’s going to be a Red Dead Redemption movie? There should be, because I think that [has] just as good or [an] even better story than The Last of Us.”

So far, Rockstar hasn’t gotten back to Black about any potential roles, although he’d be a hoot to see as a fat Arthur Morgan.

Tenacious D’s new single, “Video Games,” is now streaming on Spotify and wherever good music gets downloaded these days. It’s also the number one trending video on YouTube. Guess lots of people still play video games.
