Terraria’s creator, Andrew Spinks, has admitted that he finds it hard to move on from updating the game (which infamously has seen several “last updates”) because it still “sells like hot cakes”.
Anyone who has kept even one eye on Terraria over the years is likely well aware ofhow many times it has been set up for its “final update”, only for it to continue being updated with bug fixes and new features. Considering how beloved the game is, no one is exactly sad to see that happen, but it turns out that massive amount of success is exactly what’s keeping it from ending.

As reported by PCGamesN, Terraria’s creator, Andrew Spinks, took to Twitter to discuss some of the features of the latest update, version 1.4.5, which dropped just a few days ago. One Terraria fan asked if the developers are done with adding new things to the game, prompting Spinks to say that the team is currently just polishing what it has before it thinks about adding anything new.
This prompted another Twitter user to cheekily respond by saying that there are still “100 more last updates to come”, which caused Spinks to say, “I don’t even know anymore”.Spinks was then asked about how well Terraria is doing and if the updates are bringing in more sales, which caused him to open up about the game’s continued success and why that makes it hard to move on from.
Spinks said, “After 12 years the game still sells like hot cakes. There is so much demand it makes it hard to move on”.To emphasise this, Spinks then retweeted a post from Twitter user chippygamingytthat points out that Terraria’s sales rose from 30 million to 44.5 million between April 2020 and April 2022, which averages out to about 604,000 copies a month. It’s suddenly a lot clearer why the team hasn’t moved on after 12 years.
Although it certainly seems like Re-Logic is going to be working on Terraria in some capacity over the next few years, it seems like there are other games that the developer would like to get started on. In another tweet, Spinks said that the team hopes to work on games “for a long time to come”, before admitting that he has at least three different game ideas that he’d to work on at some point in the future.
And hey, if the original Terraria eventually ends development, there’s always the prospect of Terraria 2,which has been mentioned by Spinks several times in the past as a possible next step for the team.
