Upgrading your arsenal is a key part of success inRemnant 2. Here, weapons are not just about dealing with damage but also about survivability and adaptability. That’s where mutators come in - these items can be slotted into your weapons to provide new effects or buffs, giving you a significant advantage in combat.
While mods provide activated abilities, mutators passively enhance your weapons through permanent buffs. With two categories for melee and ranged, mutators are some of the most valuable yet elusive upgrades you can find. Equipping the right ones can significantly improve your damage and utility in combat. If you’re having a hard time deciding which one to commit to, give these mutators a try.
Updated on August 03, 2025, by Mohamed El Ouardighi:Following the release of the Forgotten Kingdom, the game saw various additions, including new Mutators. We’ve updated this list to include extra Mutators introduced in this most recent DLC.
13Bandit
By granting a chance to refund ammo on hits, Bandit helps offset the low magazine capacities of many high-damage weapons. At level ten, this mutator really shines - with a 30 percent refund chance, you’ll rarely have to stop firing to reload. And the added ten percent fire rate bonus after refunds allows you to pour on even more damage.
Equipping Bandit with a hard-hitting revolver or rifle can transform it into a relentless instrument of destruction. You’ll be firing and refunding ammo so quickly that it will feel like you have an endless supply. With the power of Bandit, you’re able to decimate hordes of enemies without ever needing to pause for reloads.
12Tainted Blade
If you’re into close-up fighting with a melee weapon that gives your foes a dose of Corroded status, the Tainted Blade is just what you need. It boosts your melee damage by five percent for each Corroded stack on your target. Even if your fully upgraded weapon doesn’t naturally give out Corroded, don’t worry, this Mutator has your back.
Now, every charged melee hit not only applies Corroded to enemies but also dishes out 500 Acid damage. This means you’ll be piling up more Corroded stacks, cranking up the damage in all your melee moves.
11Deadly Calm
The default effect of Deadly Calm is a continuous increase in ranged damage by up to ten percent over three seconds, making them ideal for someone who likes to take their time aiming and taking careful shots. However, that’s not all - upgrading Deadly Calm will also increase your ranged critical hit chance by ten percent, giving you even more chance to land those crucial headshots.
With the amount of aiming you’ll do while targeting foes, these mutators will surely give you a significant advantage on the battlefield. Deadly Calm takes already formidable weapons and makes them absolutely devastating.
10Twisting Wounds
Twisting Wounds is an essential mutator for any Handler looking to maximize damage output. By causing enemies to bleed, this mutator takes advantage of the Handler’s companion creatures and their tendency to apply bleed with every attack. The one limitation is that ranged weapons don’t naturally cause bleeding.
It provides a substantial ten percent damage boost against enemies suffering from the Bleeding status effect. This encourages strategic gameplay - by applying the Bleed status to targets using skills or mods, you can follow up with boosted gun damage.
9Prophecy
If you’re a fan of tinkering with weapon mods, then this Mutator is your go-to. Activate the weapon mod on the gear equipped with Prophecy, and you’ll enjoy a neat three percent boost in weapon mod generation for ten seconds. And guess what? you may stack this effect up to five times. This means more frequent unleashing of your weapon mods in the heat of battle, letting you handle enemies with a quick finesse.
Now, here’s the icing on the cake. If your weapon is fully upgraded, you snag an extra perk; which is a ten percent reduction in mod power requirements. This perk is especially beneficial if you’re rolling withthe Archon archetype, given its heavy reliance on weapon mods. It’s like a little gift for your mod-loving playstyle.
8Battery
The Battery is an excellent mutator for ranged weapon users who prioritize precision and weak spot hits. This piece of gear boosts weak spot damage by ten percent per stack, up to a maximum of five stacks, resulting in a 50 percent weak spot damage increase. Landing that critical hit also applies a damage-over-time effect, dealing an extra 15 percent damage over three seconds at max stacks.
By equipping The Battery, anyone specializing in handguns and long guns can take down even the toughest enemies faster. Whether found as a random drop or purchased fromthe Ward 13 merchant, this mutator is a top choice for those who excel at landing those perfect headshots from a distance.
7Near-Sighted
In Remnant 2, gunplay and ranged attacks take center stage, making a mutator that enhances these capabilities essential. For instance, if you’re playing as a Hunter, this mutator is a perfect fit as it boosts ranged damage by ten percent to enemies within a seven-meter radius. While seven meters may sound like a considerable distance, you’ll often spot enemies from afar and can begin your attacks as soon as you see them.
This means that the bonus will be active most of the time. The only drawback is when you find yourself in closed-off dungeon areas where it won’t be as effective. However, in most cases, you’ll be navigating spacious environments and maintaining distance from enemies to shoot them down.
6Transference
Transference is a valuable mutator that can help you in tight situations when you run low on ammo. When activated, melee hits generate five percent ammo reserves for both firearms, which can be a lifesaver in tight situations. This can be especially useful when enemies surround you and need to reload your weapon quickly.
The mutator has a cooldown of ten seconds, so you’ll need to plan your attacks carefully to make the most of it. With some strategic close-combat strikes, Transference allows you to turn the tide of an intense firefight and take down the hordes swarming your position.
5Slayer
Slayer allows you to become invisible for five seconds after getting a kill. At first glance, this may seem situational and only useful in certain circumstances. However, it can be extremely powerful with the right build and play style. By stacking cooldown reduction and maximizing your kill rate, you can have near-constant uptime on the invisibility.
Furthermore, by upgrading this cloaking mutator to the maximum level, you can increase damage by 20 percent and get an additional bonus of a 15 percent increase in reload speed. Even high-level enemies will melt before you when built around maintaining permanent cloaking. With creativity and skill, what seems like a minor mutator can take you to unseen levels of lethality.
4Overdrive
Overdrive is a melee mutator that increases melee critical hit chance and damage by five percent for 7.5 seconds, stacking up to five times. The upgraded effect increases melee critical damage by an additional 20 percent. This mutator is best used on melee weapons with high critical hit chance and damage, as it can significantly increase the damage output of these weapons.
Overdrive can be found in the Yaesha region, specifically in The Lament. It is dropped by the boss enemy Wither, who must be defeated to obtain this mod. To reach Wither, you first need to solve thetricky Consort’s Puzzle, which involves interacting with statues in the correct order.
