When you play through a game, you probably aren’t interested in dealing with liars of any kind. Being stuck in a section of a cryptic game is bad enough, but if a character is willing to lie to you, things can get even more difficult.

On the odd occasion, some liars are a bit more harmless. Their lies are a part of the world-building of the game or evena significant aspect of the overall story. Whether a key aspect of the plot or no more than a simple meme, video games have had some nasty little liars over the years.
10ClapTrap
While theBorderlandsseries' resident annoying robot ClapTrap is both loved and hated, everyone has to admit, he is a bit of a liar. It’s more so the robot’s personality and it really doesn’t create too many major issues, but it’s still worth noting.
ClapTrap just thinks that it is the greatest being around and that everything around it is nothing more than another simple minion for it to control. It’s overconfident in its abilities and lies to everyone, usually resulting in it facing trouble, and you gaining a lot of experience in fights.
9Ms. Kawakami
Persona 5’sMs. Kawakami is certainly an… interesting figure.The questionable confidant storylineputs your teacher in a new light, one that has her lying to you for the majority of it. It’s a good thing Joker is so kind because seriously, she lies a lot.
Her lies about illness and her job do make sense by the end of the confidant story, but some have said that it does pay off in a bit of a clunky way. Even with the lies, you might end up trusting her and getting involved with her.
8Colette Brunel
InTales Of Symphonia, Colette is the chosen, a person tasked with setting off on a pilgrimage across the world in order to save it. What the main hero Lloyd doesn’t know is that Colette is aware that her transformation into an angel is quite harrowing.

Since Colette doesn’t want the others to worry about her, she lies about the severeness of her condition throughout the entire game. At one point, there’s even a much-loved scene in which Lloyd tricks her into telling the truth with a drink.
7Mama Cucco
InHyrule Warriors, you can come across the dreaded Mama Cucco. That may not sound all that scary to you, but if you know anything about the Cuccos from the main series, you’ll know that the birds can be deadly and unforgiving.
Mama Cucco is no different. If you fail to execute the Cucco’s mission properly the bird will lash out with extreme violence. It is announced that it will attack everything, when in reality, that bird will be coming for you, and only you.
6Adachi
Anyone who’s played through the excellentPersona 4will know that Adachi is one slimy individual. The seemingly mild-mannered cop turns out to be a twisted and sinister man who’s been lying to everyone around him throughout the entire game.
His lies are so intense and abundant that, when replaying the game a second time, you’ll find that even tiny pieces of his dialogue are major lies. He may not be the ultimate big bad, but Adachi is right up there with one of the most heinous.
5The Illusive Man
One of the most interesting and mysterious villains in sci-fi gaming isMass Effect’s, Illusive Man. The head of Cerberus has goals that always seem to have hidden ulterior motives, meaning that everything he says and does could be lies.
He lies to Shepard a number of times over the course of the game, even sending Shepard into a Collector trap at one point. Luckily, if you’re playing paragon, you won’t have any time for the man’s lies, and eventually, you’ll put him in his place.
4M’aiq The Liar
One of the best and most meme-worthy recurring characters in theElder Scrollsseries is M’aiq The Liar. The famous Khajiit can be found in various games,and will always be happy to share a few lies with you.
One of the absolute best is M’aiq’s lies about dragons in Morrowind, claiming that dragons do exist, but are actually invisible when they fly low to the ground so no one can see them. For whatever reason, M’aiq absolutely loves this claim and repeats it throughout the series.
3Trusty Patches
Dark Soulsis already heard enough for most people, so adding a liar into the mix is just cruel. To be fair, you should have known thata guy named Trusty Patcheswas going to end up lying to and betraying you.

Patches might promise no tricks, but that swift kick in the butt into a dark pit sure does feel like a trick, doesn’t it? At least in this instance, the liar can get his comeuppance when you take him on and pay him back for the kick.
2Handsome Jack
Throughout the entirety of Borderlands 2, Handsome Jack is actually lying to himself more than he is to you. He frames the entire game as if he is actually the hero and you are the villain trying to stop him, something that is obviously untrue.
Most heroes don’t trap and use their daughters for their own personal gain. Still, Handsome Jack is adamant that everything you do is for the side of evil, while he works for the side of virtue, something that goes to show how narcissistic he really is.
1Glados
It would be impossible not to include Glados because almost every single thing she ends up saying to you throughoutPortalis a lie in some form. Even when she isn’t lying, it’s incredibly difficult to tell whether or not anything is true.
Her constant taunts and lies make all of her words meaningless, yet somehow,she still has plenty of memorable quotes. Her wicked personality is the thing that makes her an all-time favorite villain, and it won’t be a shock to see her return in the future.
