Many famous characters fall under the mightyDisneybanner these days. For instance, everyone in Star Wars and Pixar films is owned by Disney, as are the many characters in Marvel projects. Yet, the company didn’t invent the likes of Luke Skywalker and Iron Man.

But Disney has come up with many of its own great characters in its long history that dates back to the 1920s. Most of the greatest ones come from the company’s various animated shorts, movies, and TV shows. There have been wise-cracking animals, sassy villains, and elegant princesses. But the following ones stand above the others.

10Mickey Mouse

While Disney has grown a lot over the years, Mickey Mouse remains the closest thing to the company’s mascot. As such, he has been in so many TV shows and movies over the years, playing various different roles. He’s been everything from a sorcerer to a musketeer.

Regardless of what outfit he wears, his personality remains the same, as he’s always upbeat and optimistic. And audiences haven’t grown tired of him after all these years, which shows how entertaining he is.

9Elsa

When it comes to recent Disney flicks, the Frozen titles are certainly the most successful. This is partially down to having a unique main character in Elsa. For many years, Disney princesses were similar in personality and backstory.

Elsa, however, is a bit different from the rest. For one, she doesn’t need anything resembling a protector, as she’s gotincredibly cool ice powers. This makes her one of the most powerful Disney characters ever. More importantly, it gives her a unique arc about being different.

8Hades

The god of the underworld, Hades, is the main villain of the Hercules movie. He stands out among the large collection of Disney rogues because of his entertainment value.

The guy is a ruthless evil-doer, but he’s also hilarious. He is over-the-top, eccentric, and extremely witty. Any scene he is in is automatically better because of his presence. His rage-fuelled outburts are a particular highlight, and you get to see a lot of them throughout the film.

7Belle

Belle is one of the most grounded and likable Disney princesses the company has created. This is because she is an ordinary woman who loves reading and yearns for adventure.

In the Beauty And The Beast movie, she gets about as much adventure as someone can handle when she gets imprisoned by the Beast. But it’s there where another important aspect of her personality is revealed, as you discover she has the ability to look past appearances and see who somebody really is.

6Stitch

One of the two titular characters inthe underrated Disney movie, Lilo And Stitch, is a genetically engineered alien. He is designed to cause havoc around the galaxy. Yet, due to hanging around with Lilo, he quickly becomes a lovely little companion.

He’s funny, cute, and ridiculously powerful. That last point leads to him participating in a litany of enjoyable action sequences in the movies and TV series, which is another reason the character stands out.

5Mulan

Mulan is one of the bravest Disney characters, as she poses a man so she can go to war instead of her father. This happens very early in the Mulan movie, but it’s enough to make you appreciate the character on some level.

Then the character gets even better when she attempts to make it in the army. She displays great persistence and determination to show that she belongs. Her effort is admirable, and she’s a good role model to younger viewers.

4Cruella De Vil

Cruella De Vil from the Dalmations movies is one of the easiest-to-hate villains in Disney history. After all, this evil woman wants to hurt dogs. At the same time, it’s hard not to be amused by her outlandish personality and wacky dress sense.

These things have allowed the character to become much more famous than the movie that she’s from. It helps that she is the subject of one of the most memorable andbest villain songs in Disney history. This adds to her already impressive legacy.

3Goofy

Goofy is perhaps the most appropriately named Disney character because the overgrown dog is certainly goofy. The character has appeared in so many Disney projects over the years. In pretty much all of them, he’s portrayed as a gullible, simple-minded, and clumsy dog.

This has led to many funny moments over the years. But he’s not just a comic relief pooch. Goofy has also had several heartwarming and deep moments, typically involving his son. His ability to make audiences both laugh and cry is what makes him so beloved.

2Genie

The late Robin Williams played many great characters throughout his career. So, it’s a big compliment to the Genie from Aladdin to say he is one of the actor’s best characters.

The big blue being serves as comic relief throughout the film. And he plays that role very well, as his antics are hilarious. The guy never stops talking, so he’s often firing out jokes at a rapid pace. He adds to these gags using his shape-shifting talents. Thus, he’s a fantastic physical comedian, too.

1Donald Duck

The third member of the iconic Disney trio alongside Mickey and Goofy is Donald. Like the others, there isn’t one movie or series you can associate him with, as he’s been in plenty of different ones.

Typically, he’s portrayed as the grouchy one of the group. Yet, the term grouchy is an understatement, as Donald is typically filled with rage, which counteracts the positive vibes of Mickey and Goofy. Watching him go on his tirades is typically very comical. Equally funny is the ridiculous bad luck the Duck is cursed with. Things often go spectacularly wrong for Donald in the most outrageous ways, which regularly provides plenty of laughs.
