However, due to her diverse portfolio, there are unfortunately some careers of Barbie’s that you might have never heard of. Perhaps even Barbie herself has forgotten about these occupations! So, prepared to be amazed by these ten careers you didn’t know Barbie had.

10Game Developer

Game development is hard. Unless you want to go at it alone, the job involves gathering a team of talented artists, programmers, writers, and designers to work around the clock. Then, you have to produce, market, and publish your title. All while hoping that your masterpiece won’t get torn apart by the online critics. Yet somehow, Barbie did all this by herself.

In 2016, Barbie added Game Developer to her long list of careers. Armed with a tablet, a laptop, a headset, rocking red highlights, and an outfit that screams 2016 Silicon Valley, Barbie looked ready to create and codethe best icon-matching puzzle game ever. The only downside to this career is that Barbie’s outfit lacks the bright pink the superstar is known for.

9Builder

Grab your neon yellow construction vest, strap on your orange tool belt, and equip your pink hard hat, because here comes Builder Barbie. One of her 2020 careers, Barbie’s Builder job came with look-alikeLego pieces that you could build into a beach house and a tree house. But you could also think outside the box and create anything that you wanted to.

Unfortunately, the Builder’s outfit was a little simpler and more practical than Barbie’s other looks. Mattel could have at least added a design on her white t-shirt or something. After all, it’s what they did for Beekeeper Barbie.

8Beekeeper

Barbie’s 2018 Beekeeper career had everyone’s favorite fashion icon taking on two jobs. The first was the management of her own apiary, where she made sure her buzzing bees were healthy and happy, and the second was her business selling the organic honey her bees made from her kiosk.

For this occupation, Barbie came dressed for the occasion in a white beekeeper suit (decorated with little bees), gloves, working boots, and a netted hat. The attention to detail on this Barbie play set made for an interactive and fun learning experience that managed to keep the core elements of the beekeeper profession.

6Judge

Did you know that Barbie was a judge? As in a justice serving, got her law degree, all-powerful judge? Announced in 2019 as her career of the year, everyone rose to welcome Barbie as she entered and called order in her courtroom.

Though the look lacked that bright pink usually associated with the blonde, Barbie’s judge outfit reflected the professionalism and importance that the occupation is known for. In a black gown decorated with a lace collar, black high heels, and holding a gavel, Barbie was prepared to take on any case. All while inspiring future judges to reach for their dreams.

5Computer Engineer

Barbie’s job as a Computer Engineer came with some controversy at the time of its release. Why, you ask? Well, in an accompanying book, Barbie was portrayed as a damsel in cyber-distress rather than the capable and professional woman that everyone knows she is.

That aside, it’s always amazing whenever Barbie shows off a new career in the STEM field, she looks amazing too. It’s unfortunate that Barbie didn’t copy this outfit when she went into game development. Just look at it! A binary t-shirt ? An electric circuit jacker? Comfy, sparkly leggings? Yes, to all of that!

4Paleontologist

A career dedicated to discovering old bones and learning more about the dinosaurs that used to roam planet earth? That sure sounds like a dream come true. And Barbie achieved that dream in both 1996 and 2012, when she was a Paleontologist. She even had three dolls dedicated to this job.

One of these dolls, done as a collaboration between Mattel and the Smithsonian Institute, showcased an excited Barbie and ancient dinosaur bones that could be put together like a puzzle. Not only that, but Barbie got to keep her signature style while working on the dig. Her bright pink vest, pink-lined green pants, and t-shirt decorated with a brontosaurus and a triceratops is a look that every up-and-coming paleontologist should borrow.

1Cat Burglar

Out of all of Barbie’s careers, her time as a cat burglar is the most surprising. Unless you’rerecreating one of the Phantom Thieves’ many heists, you don’t typically picture Barbie stealing from others. But, in 2009, Barbie made the interesting choice of adding cat burglar to her resume.

Though this job isn’t as legal as her other professions, Barbie did come prepared in a skin-tight, black suit that would help her blend in with any background. The prize that Barbie was taking? Louboutin Christian shoes. Which is strange, because this career was a collaboration with Louboutin Christian so, technically, Barbie already had something made by them: herself.
