With the introduction of milestones into theSims 4,your Sims have a new way to achieve their goals and reflect on their life. Perhapsthe life stagewith the most impactful milestones is the infants. Each milestone won’t just mark a moment they learned a new skill or made a new friend, but will allow them to grab, dance, and laugh.

There are five categories of infant milestones: firsts, fine motor, gross motor, life, and social. Each category is specific to the behaviors of your infant, and they will slowly achieve their milestones by either exploring on their own or having your help. Some milestones are sequential within their categories, so you have to complete them in order.

5Firsts (Caregiving)

The first milestone every infant will achieve is actually in the category of Life, and the only milestone there isBorn,orBorn at Hospitalif you havethe Get to Work pack.

While it’s certainly a first, it’s monumental enough to be separate. The category of Firsts, though, is the category of milestones for infants that depends entirely on you. They can be achieved in any order, depending on what you introduce into your infant’s world. Milestones likeFirst Bath, First Bubble Bath, First Diaper Blowout, andPeed on Caregiverwill be easily achieved as you take care of your baby.

Some milestones, likeFirst Finger FoodandFirst Baby Food, will depend on what gross motor milestones your infant has achieved (i.e. the ability to sit up in a high chair). TheSlept Through the Nightmilestone is every Sim parent’s dream and will be easier if you happen to have an infantwith the calm trait.

4Firsts (Social)

The other half of the Firsts milestones are more related to social interactions your infant will start to experience. If the neighbors visit to meet your infant, they’ll achieve theFirst Visitorsmilestone. If the visitors are family, such as their grandparents, they’ll receive a more specialFirst Family Visitmilestone. Infants can also achieve theFirst Visit to a Family Member’s Home, either with you or, if you need some alone time, by themselves.

First Trip to ParkandFirst Vacationare achieved when your infant travels somewhere new for the first time. And, of course, one of the most exciting milestones in an infant’s life:First Word. This can only be achieved if your infant has completed a number of social category milestones, specifically when they unlock the babble social interaction.

3Fine Motor

Most milestones in the fine motor category will be achieved by your infant as they explore the world around them. First, your infant will completeLearned to Reach, thenLearned to Grab. These milestones can be easily achieved by having your infant lay on the play mat. While you may not want to just leave your infant alone, these aren’t milestones your Sim will be able to really help them achieve. ensure you keep an eye onyour infant’s quirksas well, as those can help or deter them from achieving milestones on their own.

Learned to Wave, andLearned to Clapcan be completed on the play mat as well, or your infant can learn to clap or wave by interacting with other Sims.Put Toe in Mouthcan be completed anywhere your infant is lying down, likely happening on the play mat or in their crib at night. The final milestone in the fine motor category isLearned to Pincher Grasp, allowing your infant to carefully hold objects. This will allow your infant Sim to play with any toys found in the toy box.

2Gross Motor

Similar to fine motor, gross motor milestones are best achieved by your infant exploring, using the play mat, or having tummy time with you. First, your infant will completeLifted Head,Rolled Over to Back, thenRolled Over to Tummy. It’s best to help your infant with these first basic steps. Soon, they will haveLearned to CreepandLearned to Sit Up,allowing them to move on their own and sit in the high chair.

Pulled to Standis easier with help from you, but you may find your infant leveraging themselves on the sofa to get up on their feet. Once they have that down, your infant Sim will bust a move and will haveLearned to Dance. They still won’t be able to walk on their own until they are toddlers, but once they have finallyLearned to Crawl, they’ll be moving through the house.

1Social

Unlike the social-leaning milestones in the Firsts category, these milestones reflect how your infant is learning to interact with others.First Smiledis easily achieved for infants with the sunny trait, or by interacting with your infant when they are in a happy mood.Learned to Coo, Learned to Laugh,Learned to Blow Kiss, andLearned to Babbleare similar, so make sure you’re talking with your infant as much as you can to help them achieve these.

Milestones likeLearned Peek-a-Boo,andLearned to Blow Raspberryreflect special interactions you can have with your infant. The more you do these interactions, the sooner they will pick up on it and copy your behavior. These milestones will be cleared easily if you havea large householdfor your infant to interact with. Before you know it, your infant will be laughing and babbling throughout the household.
