Niantic’sPeridotinvites players to add a bit of colour and whimsy into their lives by introducing them to adorable little creatures called dots. You’ll need to take care of your new pets as you would any other — feeding them, playing with them, and fulfilling their whims, such as going for walks, meeting people or other pets, and more.
RELATED:Peridot: FAQ Guide
Much of Peridot’s appeal is based on breeding dots to get new traits and appearances for your precious pets. There’s a lot to learn and get to grips with in the game, so we’ve pulled together our top tips to help get you started.
Updated June 11, 2025:We’ve updated this article to include more tips that we think will help you out in Peridot!
Which Egg Should You Pick?
When you start up the game, you’ll be able to choose between three random eggs. Unlike later eggs you hatch, these will not show you any of the traits of the dot inside, and you may only choose based on the appearance of the egg.
While you won’t know which style face, horns, or other details your dot will have, the style of the egg does indicate what its pattern and material will be. Essentially, the way the egg looks is how the skin pattern of your dot will look.Pick whichever one is most appealing to you.
Focus On Getting Growth For Your Dot
Your main aim is getting your dot to grow, as you want it to be an adult so you can breed it with other dots. Your dot earns Growth every time you complete a Desire and by filling its hunger and play meters.
Ensure youcheck in on your Peridot throughout the day to keep its meters filledby feeding it, playing fetch, or petting it, to get as much Growth as possible.
You also want tocomplete as many Desires as possiblefor your dot. New desires are added periodically throughout the day, socheck back often.
you’re able to also feed your dot Dewdrops to replenish desires immediately, which you can often find while foraging.
You Can Cheat With Desires
Often your dot will ask to see specific things as a Desire. This could be a pet, a person, a flower, or a tree, to name a few. If you don’t fancy having to track one of these down, pull up Google images and simply search for what you needand point your phone towards it. It works more often than not.
Befriend Players Before Sending A Hatch-a-Dot Request
When your dot is finally old enough to breed, you’ll have to find another dot to send a Hatch-a-Dot request to. you’re able to see other dots at nearby habitats or through the Visitor Dots option, butbe warned that if the player isn’t on your friend list, your request will go to Message Requests. This means the player is less likely to see your request and some player turn off Message Requests entirely.
As you can only send the same player a request once every five days, increase the odds of them seeing your Hatch-a-Dot request byadding them to your Friend List first. This means the request will bypass the Message Request menu and go straight into their inbox.
Don’t Bother Breeding With A Dot Where Most Of The Traits Are Locked
When you do eventually find yourself ready to breed, don’t just choose the first dot you come across.Nests and Sundrops required for breeding are scarce and cost real money, so you’ll want to be careful how often you use these.
When dots breed, the eggs have an equal chance of inheriting a trait from either parent, providing the trait is unlocked for you. Choosing to breed your dot with another that has mostly locked traits will result in your baby dot looking much like the one you already have, so you’re not really getting anything new from the exchange genetically.
Check Each Egg’s Traits Before Choosing
After you complete a Hatch-a-Dot, you will be given three eggs to choose from, but you can only select one.Clicking each egg will show you which traits the dot will inherit, so be sure tochoose one that has the most new traits you were hoping for.
You Can’t Breed With Two Of Your Own Dots
One of the ways you can find a dot to Hatch-a-Dot with is by checking out those showcased at Habitats. Though you can display your own dots here and then equip another of your dots, you cannot send a Hatch-a-Dot to yourself by selecting the showcased dot.You can only Hatch-a-Dot with other players.
Don’t Forget Quests
As well as Desires, you’ll want tomake sure you’re completing your Daily and Weekly Questsas these earn you XP and Sundrops. You’ll want XP to level up your Keeper rank, as each time you level up, you’ll unlock more traits and features, and you’ll need those Sundrops for breeding.
Showcasing Your Dot Will Get You More Friend And Hatch-a-Dot Requests
Once your dot is an adult, you canshowcase it at a habitat. Doing so will undoubtedly get you more Hatch-a-Dot and friend requests. While you don’t necessarily get anything worthwhile (or, at all) for saying yes to incoming Hatch-a-Dot requests, just remember how it feels to have your own requests ignored.
Making friends is good because you have more people you’re able to easily connect with for breeding and sharing gifts, too.
You Can Only See Your Friend’s Currently Equipped Dot
The downside to the Friend’s List is thatyou can only see your friend’s currently equipped dot, and unsurprisingly, this means they are mostly babies as everyone is trying to raise their dots. This makes it harder to peruse your Friend List to send Hatch-a-Dot requests.
If you know a friend has an adult dot you want to see, you could always message them on Campfire and ask them to switch so you can send a request.
You Can Send Hatch-a-Dot Requests For Teen Dots, But You Can’t Use It Until It’s An Adult
Once your dot becomes a teen, you will be able to send Hatch-a-Dot requests to adult dots. However, if the other player agrees to the Hatch-a-Dot and sends the link, you cannot use it until your dot grows into an adult. Links do expire eventually, so it’s worth bearing in mind not to send requests until your teen is close to becoming an adult.
Check The Store For Freebies And Deals
Peridot is full of Microtransactions, and whether you plan to spend your hard-earned cash or not,you should still check out the store occasionally. At the time of writing this, there is a freebie Nest available in the store, and I imagine that Niantic will periodically add other freebies to celebrate events.
If you do want to spend a little in the store, the deals change all the time, and so you can sometimes grab a bargain by waiting for the right bundle or item to appear.
