While every animated Disney film has its own devoted following, there are some that don’t get nearly as much recognition as others. If a Disney movie has a princess in it, it’s sure to be an absolute hit, but those that try something a little bit different often become underrated gems that many Disney fans have never taken the time to see.

10The Emperor’s New Groove

The Emperor’s New Groove tells the tale of a bratty Incan emperor who is turned into a llama by his villainous former advisor Yzma. After befriending a villager named Pacha, whose home Kuzco was going to destroy, the two work together to get emperor Kuzco home while also defeating Yzma and her right-hand man, Kronk.

This movie has become a bit of a meme thanks to the legendary performance of Patrick Warburton as Kronk, but David Spade really does stand out at Kuzco. It’s much less musical than classic Disney films at times, but the comedic adventure is one of the funniest Disney movies around.

9A Goofy Movie

There do seem to be some dedicated fans of A Goofy Movie online, but even that’s not enough love for this underrated gem with a whole lot of heart. The whole movie sees Goofy trying everything he can to bond with his son Max by going on a fishing trip.

While that may sound simple, the hijinks that ensue do keep the film unique. Even better, many people who grew up with the movie and rooted forMax to go to his concertare now finding that they root for Goofy, which shows how emotional and timeless this movie is for Disney fans.

This underrated classic is about the friendship and eventual animosity between a fox and a dog. It’s a movie that will hit home way harder than most people expect, and you’ll genuinely be wondering whether or not the two old friends will rekindle their friendship or if the movie will end in tragedy.

7Lilo And Stitch

When Disney decided to set a story in Hawaii, you probably weren’t expecting that to mean they wanted to tell a story about a little blue alien. For whatever reason, Lilo And Stitch often gets forgotten when talking about the greats despite the heartwarming message this film has revolving around family.

Stitch, an alien, befriends little Lilo while her big sister Nani does what she can to take care of them. This movie demonstrates that you don’t need to be blood to be considered family — a message everyone can take to heart.

6The Rescuers

This 1977 classic is often known for the inappropriate easter egg that can befound in some copies of the film, but it deserves more love for the exciting adventure it is. The story primarily revolves around two adorable mice whose job is to save people who’ve been kidnapped.

The headstrong mice spend the film trying to save a young orphan who some evil men are using in order to get their hands on a diamond. It’s a cute story, and one that’ll have you wishing there really was an international group of heroic mice running around.

5The Black Cauldron

There have been mixed opinions on Black Cauldron over the years, and a lot of that has to do with the darker tone of the movie. As far as animation goes, this sprawling fantasycan get pretty creepy, but that’s what makes it a unique piece of Disney’s history.

Essentially, a young group of heroes tries to stop an evil king from getting his hands on a cauldron that will help him become the most powerful being in the world. Being the first Disney film to use CGI, it was hugely expensive, but the film didn’t get the love it deserves, leading it to bomb.

4Oliver & Company

Anyone who’s read Oliver Twist will be able to find a lot of similarities with 1988’s Oliver & Company, as it seems to be inspired by the classic story.A cute tabby catbefriends a group of dogs on his quest to find someone to adopt and love him.

With an incredible soundtrack, fantastic animation, and a familiar story, it’s shocking that this isn’t a more loved film. It has seemingly become more popular as time has gone on, but it still doesn’t enjoy the legendary status of other classic Disney films.

3Atlantis: The Lost Empire

Upon discovering Atlantis, Milo works with Kida to help restore the empire to its former glory, but of course, one of the expedition members betrays everyone, causing chaos to break out. Led by Michael J Fox, this is another Disney film with a cult following that deserves more love.

2Treasure Planet

If you love Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Emma Thompson, Martin Short, or sci-fi pirates, then you need to watch Treasure Planet. It’s another film that moves away from the musical roots of Disney animated films, but the unique decisions it makes will keep you enthralled the entire time.

Young Jim Hawkins dreams of one day finding the titular Treasure Planet thanks to hearing stories about a swashbuckling pirate captain. Upon happening across a map, Hawkins begins his adventure to Treasure Planet, but it is drought with danger and betrayal. This imaginative movie is a classic for any fans of pirates.
