Create A Horse
If you’re starting your Sims family from scratch in Create-a-Sim, you’re able tofully customize a horsethe same way you would any other animal.
Located in the"Create Animal" tabwhen adding a new Sim to the family, selecting to create your horse gives you the option todesign its color, breed, mane, and traits.
Select up tothree traitsfor your horse to determine what kind ofpersonalityit will have, with certain horse types being notedlyeasier to train.
Once that’s set, you can choose from differentswatchesfor the color of your horse, or even use thespray toolto design one yourself.

What’s The Difference Between Buying And Adopting A Horse?
If you head over tothe Equestrian Center, which is in thecenter of New Appaloosaover inthe new worldin The Sims 4 Horse Ranch,Chestnut Ridge, orclick a Horse Bed on your lot, you’ll find the option to eitherbuy or rescue horses.
In either of these two situations, you havetwo different optionsfor getting a horse, with vastly different price points.
Buying A Horse Is A Grab Bag
When you instruct your Sim to"Purchase Horse"from the Equestrian Center, you’ll be given a menu ofa dozen horses to choose fromat any given time.
These horsestypically have the best traitsfor training or companionship, butnot always. You may want tohover over the portrait for more informationbefore you land on a horse.
For the most part, these horses have traits that make foreasy training, so be sure to weigh the pros and cons of a potential horse’s personality before deciding.
Once you’ve chosen a horse,select it from the menu and click the checkmark. You’ll pay1,000 simoleonsand walk out of the Equestrian Center with thenew horse in your familyalready.
Rescue Horses Can Be A Challenge
However, if the full 1,000 for a horse isa little too steepfor you, you’ve also got the option ofrescuing. This option only costs250 simoleons, but that discount may come with a price.
Thankfully, the game is vague on the details, but the horses available for rescue all havetraits that are tougher to deal withwhen training a horse as a result of their original homes.
Often, these are some combination ofAggressiveto make them more difficult to socialize,Defiantto make them harder to train, orFearful, which makes them more prone to getting Scared.
