There is no shortage of violent crimes inThe Witcher 3,especially in Velen. As the first area Geralt enters after White Orchard, it sets the tone for the rest of the game. War has ravaged the swamps, leaving criminals free to go about and do their criminal activities.

In the unmarked side quest, Highway Robbery, you come across a trio of bandits trying to rob a poor, helpless merchant on the road south of Crow’s Perch. While short and easy to complete, we’ve written this guide to help you find the encounter and to get the most out of it.

Where To Find Highway Robbery

This quest takes place in Velen on theroad southeast of Crow’s Perch,between thevillage itself and Boatmakers' Hut.When travelling down the road, you’ll find three banditsholding a fourth man hostageas they seem to threaten his life.

If you’regoing out of your way to start this quest,it would be a good idea toinvestigate Boatmakers' Hut.This Fast Travel point marks anabandoned settlementthat includes aharbor for boats.

You’ll also receive asmall cash reward for clearing it,if you need the incentive.

The quest starts as soon as you get close to the group.

Fighting The Bandits

Once you’re close enough to see the red of their health bars, the ruse is up.The apparent hostage joins in the fight,becoming another target. You’ll have to defend yourself from the gang andkill all of them.

While the group isn’t particularly dangerous, it’s worthkeeping an eye out for the crossbowman.If not dealt with early, he’llshoot at Geralt with impunity.Given that you’re likely early in the game when you encounter this group, it can be surprisingly deadly.

The quest ends after all of them are dead. While there isn’t a reward, you can profit from the encounter by looting andselling the bandits' weapons.It’s not much, but it’s better than nothing.
