The oceans ofFinal Fantasy 14are filled with hundreds of fish to catch. With every new update, more fish seem to find their way into the waters of Eorzea, Thavnair, and the lands beyond. One of these fish is the Jhinga, an elusive shellfish that can be difficult to hook.

Jhinga are used in two useful crafting recipes, and can be sold for a bit of gil on the Market Board. However, Jhinga can be difficult to find due to their limited spawning areas, so below you can find everything you need to know about catching one, including where to find them and the best bait to use.

How To Catch Jhinga

Jhinga can only be found inThavnair (X:6.5, Y:11.8), on the coast justnorth of The Great Work. Jhinga can be found atany time of dayduringany type of weather, but you will need theTome of Ichthyological Folklore - Ilsabard and the Northern Emptyunlocked before it will appear.

If you don’t have the Ilsabard and Northern Empty Folklore book unlocked, you won’t find Jhinga.

Jhinga can be found usingMackerel StriporVersatile Lurefor bait, butMackerel Strip will yield better resultsdue to the lower number of fish that can be obtained using it in this area. You can buy Mackerel Strip forfive Purple Gatherers' Scripsapiece from any merchant that trades Scrips.

Be sure to equip at leastlevel 90 gearbefore setting up your rod in Thavnair.

Once you have some bait and you go to the right spot, cast your line and wait for asingle exclamation point (!) bite. If one ! bite appears after18 seconds, it’s guaranteed to be a Jhinga. Reel in at this point to catch the fish, or use Triple Hook to bring in three.

Although Mackerel Strips make Jhinga much more common, itmay take a few attemptsto reel one in. Have patience, and you’ll soon find a Jhinga on the end of your line.

What To Use Jhinga For

There are two recipes you’re able to craft that use Jhinga as their main ingredient, theJhinga Biryaniand theJhinga Curry. You can find the recipes for each below.
