Catching Abbé
This quest begins duringFinal Preparations,at Crippled Kate’s where Yennefer waits. Once you meet her, she explains that she’s waiting for Abbé Faria, said to be the only man who has escaped the dreaded Deireadh Prison.
The Witch Hunters keep mages and other undesirables incarcerated within the prison, with security so tight that most consider escaping impossible.
The man in question arrives for a drink shortly after. Geralt and Yennefer try to ask him about his escape, only for Abbé toflee Crippled Kate’s.You will have tochase him down and interact with himto prevent him from escaping.
Do not worry ifhe outpaces you.Yennefer willteleport to him and end the chaseif you take too long.
He calms down after being caught, relieved that he wasn’t about to be captured again. He tells Geralt and Yennefertwo crucial pieces of information;that heescaped through the sewersand thatthe guards are often drunk.
Yennefer devises a plan to use the sewers, going to Oxenfurtwhere she will make her preparations
You will havean optional objectivetomeet Zoltan.Asking for his help willremove some guards from the prison, making this quest much easier.
He will only agree to help if youhave not completedNow or Never.
Entering The Prison
Once you are ready,go to Oxenfurtto meet Yennefer by a previously sealed well. With the help of some hired labor, she managed toopen a new way into the elven ruins beneath the city.Once inside, you will be able toenter the prison underground.
Jump into the well andswim to the nearby ledge.Follow the quest marker through the area until youreach a Grave Hag.It is guarding a door anddamaged mechanism missing a lever.Interact with it for the quest to update, having Geralt find a replacement lever.
From the mechanism, take the north exit, go straight, and then turn east. You will find the replacement leverattached to another mechanism.
Return to the door andinteract with the mechanismfor Geralt to repair it, allowing you to enter the next area. There will beseveral necrophages after a breakable wall, consisting ofthree ghouls and a rotfiend.
The rotfiend is especially dangerousbecause it willexplode when near death. In the confined sewers, avoiding this attack will be difficult. Make sure towatch the rotfiend carefullyto have enough time to escape.
After killing the necrophages, reach the end of the tunnelandturn south. You will find theunderground entrance to the prison there, letting you begin your mission in earnest.
Getting The Key
There will betwo guardsat the prison’s lower entrance. If Zoltan did not get them drunk, you will have to kill both of them.Look for a key in the roomto unlock a door in the back of the room. This will lead youup a set of stairs and to the cells.
You encounterMargarita, one of Aretuza’s former headmistresses,in a cell. She has clearly seen better days and is more than ready to go. You will have totake the Prison Warden’s keyto unlock the cells and let her out.
If youspared Síle de Tansarvillein The Witcher 2, or bysimulating a Witcher 2 save, she will be sharing a cell with Margarita and in considerably worse shape.
This is easier said than done. Aftertaking another set of stairs upandkilling a set of guards, you will have toenter the prison’s main courtyard. As soon as you set foot outside, all the Witch Hunters will start attacking you.
You will have to contend with every kind of Witch Hunter imaginable. There are crossbowmen on the walls, shield-bearing guards, and even somehalberdiers. You will have toslaughter all the Witch Hunters.
Try torush up the walls and kill the crossbowmenas quickly as possible. Not only will thisremove the risk of getting shotby them, but it will alsofunnel your enemies into a narrow space.
By cramming them into a tight space, you will beless likely to be surroundedand will have an easier timeusing bombs and signson them.
Eventually, the Prison Warden will join in.He is atougher opponentthatattacks more quicklywhilebeing harder to stunafter a parry. Fortunately, heonly uses a sword.Once he is killed, search his body for the keys.
To complete the quest, free Margarita from her cell, prompting a cutscene where the sorceresses escape the prison. You will have tofind your own way outandmeet with Zoltan,if he helped you.
