Since its debut in 1987,Final Fantasyhas been a successful and adaptable series. Traversing through medieval worlds, industrial cyberpunk cities, and worlds that mirror our own, many elements change from game to game. One relative constant, however, is the presence of magic in combat and the mages that wield it.

Magic serves several purposes in Final Fantasy games, from controlling the pace of battles, to casting buffs/debuffs, to offense. With nine different types of mages in the Final Fantasy series, from the healing White Mage to the tricky Illusionist, we take a look at which type of mage aligns with your zodiac sun sign the best.

12Aries - Black Mage

The Black Mage is one of the two most prominent magic users in the Final Fantasy series, primarily focused oncasting offensive spellslike Blizzara, Firaga, and Thundaga. They are powerhouses on the battlefield: strong, effective, and often the first to strike to disorient opponents.

We find this fitting for Aries, as they tend to be courageous, full of zest, and eager to jump into new situations and make the first move. The soul of the Aries is passionate and alight with optimism and charm. It’s no stretch to see an Aries gleefully swirling in flames, ice, and thunder.

11Taurus - Green Mage

The Green Mage is a lesser known entity. Only appearing in around four Final Fantasy games, this mage’s impact on the party is subtler, as they are primarily focused on practicing green magic which casts buffs and debuffs like Bar-spells, Protect, and Float. Many RPG players know that a powerful support character can make or break a match, and steady Taurus fits the bill.

With Taurus tending towards patience, practicality, and building stability for themselves and others, it makes perfect sense that they would cast spells to increase defense. These stubborn and practical signs will fortify the party for any foe.

10Gemini - Summoner

Summoners are unique mages found in many Final Fantasy titles. While they might have some secondary white or black magic, their primary focus is summoning magical spirits, which can vary from small chocobos and carbuncles to devastating primals like Ifrit, Shiva, and Bahamut.

The Summoner never fights alone, which is why they are the ideal mage type for the sociable Gemini. This sign is playful, sociable, interdisciplinary, and focused on expression and relationships. Of course the socialite of the zodiac would fight using their friends.

9Cancer - White Mage

Along with Black Mages, White Mages are the most recognizable and consistent mage types in the Final Fantasy universe. Instead of focusing on offense, the White Mage is focused internally, practicing healing white magiclike Curaga and Healaga to keep allies afloat.

This is an ideal match for sensitive and compassionate Cancer, who are some of the most natural caregivers in the zodiac. While Cancer might appear cold, they are loyal and committed to their allies to the end. No RPG party is complete without a healer, and this sign has an immense aptitude for it.

8Leo - Summoner

The Summoner returns to embody the spirit of the Leo. A fire sign just like Aries, Leos are theatrical and boisterous; they’re natural leaders who refuse to accept failure. Fiercely intelligent, charming, and stubborn, Leo is proud sometimes to the point of egoism and arrogance.

Often found at the center of the party, Leo frequently seeks out positions of power and influence. With Summoners able to conjure loyal followers and lead them into combat, serving as magical powerhouses who possess some of the most devastating offensive displays, it’s clear to see that this mage class aligns with the Leo spirit.

7Virgo - Blue Mage

Blue Mages, though introduced a little later than White and Black Mages, are staples of the Final Fantasy series as well. Practicing blue magic, their primary focus is observing and learning skills used by foes. This allows them access to enemy spells that no other class can access like Song of Torment, White Wind, and Bad Breath, a perfect match for the observant and logical Virgo.

This sign tends to be detail-oriented, focused on taking in information and acting methodically. If you close your eyes, you’ll easily see Virgo picking apart the details of an enemy’s strategy and skill only to use it to their advantage.

6Libra - Red Mage

Red Mages have been around since the first Final Fantasy game. Stylish and adaptable, the Red Mage serves as one of the mostmultifaceted and flexible classesin the series. Red Mages are able to practice both black and white magic as well as gain proficiency in physical elements like swordplay and armored defense.

This fits well with Libra, who desires balance and connectivity. Though at times they seem indecisive, Libra seeks to blend their attributes and create an internal harmony. It’s all about symmetry with Libra; there’s no better sign to both cast a spell and swing a sword.

5Scorpio - Time Mage

Time Mages, similar to Green Mages, work best at a distance providing support to their allied combatants. Where they differ, however, is that the Time Mage focuses on controlling the pace of battle by altering the flow of space-time through skills like Haste, Stop, and Warp.

Time Mages see a battle encounter like a game of chess, much like the intelligent and cunning Scorpio. This sign is enigmatic, soulful, and enticing with a knack for gathering and seizing control of a situation. A water sign with a stinger, Scorpio prefers to lean back and watch the match play out to their benefit like a coursing stream.

4Sagittarius - Sage

The Sage is a late-game class within Final Fantasy and is commonly considered to be the evolution of the Red Mage class. Though lacking in physical prowess, Sages aremasters of magical combatwho can heal, attack, and occasionally summon. The freedom that a Sage has in terms of what role they play during each battle aligns well with the free-spirited and philosophical Sagittarius.

This sign is optimistic, blunt, intelligent, and witty. Always focused on gathering knowledge, exploring new possibilities, and retaining their freedom, Sagittarius lends itself well to the expertise and flexibility of the Sage’s magical prowess.

3Capricorn - Black Mage

Though the Black Mage is one of the first classes in the Final Fantasy series, it is also one of the most complex and difficult roles to master. The sheer variety of the Black Mage’s attack style makes this role fit for someone who is unafraid of hard work, fitting for the determined and efficacious Capricorn.

This sign has been called the ‘workaholic’ of the zodiac and is often characterized as forward-pushing, practical, persistent, and masters of discipline. It’s no question that they’ll spend hours honing their black magic to perfection.
