Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Versecontinues the thrilling story of Miles Morales learning how to juggle everyday life as a 15-year-old student with the responsibility of being Spider-Man. Set 16 months after Morales stopped Kingpin from destroying New York with the Alchemax collider in Into The Spider-Verse, the multiverse is again in danger.

This time around, however, Morales’s involvement might end up causing more harm than good, according to Miguel O’Hara. Also known as Spider-Man 2099, O’Hara’s main objective is protecting the multiverse at all costs. Besides that, he’s a mysterious, futuristic Spider-Man without a sense of humor. We take a deeper look at O’Hara’s history in Marvel, how that differs from his Spider-Verse iteration, and whether or not he’s a vampire.
Earth-928
Miguel O’Hara resides in the universe Earth-928, apotential futureof the prime Marvel universe Earth-616. This universe is set in a future where aglobal waroccurred between humans and mutants, and while the humans ultimately won, the world became a wasteland. Natural disasters caused oceans to rise and sink large land masses, drastically altering the geographical landscape of the future.
A new power structure was established in the aftermath of the war, and corporations likeAlchemax became ruling-class leaders. Alchemax deployed a private police called thePublic Eyeto control much of the lower classes. For all intents and purposes, the age of heroes was over until Spider-Man 2099.
Terrible Accident
O’Hara was an intelligent genetic engineer whose work, unfortunately, benefitted Alchemax. Unbeknownst to O’Hara, his real father wasTyler Stone, a high-ranking executive at Alchemax, and also his boss. Stone was fixated onimprinting genetic codesinto human physiology that could significantly change a person’s physical and mental state.
Reluctantly, O’Hara tested the process on a subject named Mr. Sims, but he waspainfully transfigured into a terrifying creature before dying. Witnessing Mr. Sims’s death was the final straw for O’Hara, and he tried to resign from his position. Instead, Stone gave O’Hara a drinkmixed with a powerful hallucinogenic drug called Rapture.
Not only does Rapture latch itself to your DNA, but Alchemaxmanufactures it. Stone hoped getting O’Hara addicted to the drug would force him to continue working for Alchemax. However, O’Hara attempted toextract the Rapturefrom his DNA by performing the experimental genetic procedure that he had just unsuccessfully performed on Mr. Sims.
O’Hara’s procedure on himself might’ve been successful, but his supervisor,Aaron Delgato, sabotaged it tokill O’Hara. Somehow, O’Hara survived the process and gained powerful abilities, and eliminated the Rapture. When Delgato discovered that O’Hara survived, heopened fire on him, thinking that O’Hara was now going to kill him.
An explosion in the lab blasted Delgato off a ledge, but O’Hara managed to catch him with hissuperpowered reflexes. Unfortunately, O’Hara was unaware thathe had developed talons, and they tore into Delgato’s arm, and he fell to his death.
Several Public Eye officers were alerted of the explosion and began to pursue O’Hara. He was able to evade capture byleaping onto a hang gliderthat was being flown by a member of the Church of Thor.
The Church of Thor was a collection of people who worshipped the old Norse Thunder God and believed Thor would one day return to Midgard to smite the ones who were unworthy.
First Fight Against Venture
When O’Hara was asked who he was, he told the Thorite that he’d go by “the Easter Bunny, Santa Claus, or Spider-Man.” Mishearing him that he was indeed Spider-Man, the Thorite began praising him andlost control of the glider. Both of them survived the crash and O’Hara used pieces of the glider to disguise himself, so he could safely return to his apartment.
After taking a nap, O’Hara woke up thinking the whole Spider-Man ordeal was a nightmare, but the sight of his talons made him realize it was reality. While he was inspecting his talons, his AI Lyla informed him his brother, Gabriel, was heading over to check up on him. When he arrived, O’Hara noticed that he was being followed byVenture, an Alchemax bounty hunter.
O’Hara quickly crafted a costume from an oldDay of the Deadcostume and the material from the glider, and managed to escape his apartment with his brother. Still thinking he’s Spider-Man, the Thorites tried toprotect O’Hara,but were swiftly disposed of by Venture. The bounty hunterkilledone of the Thorites, which angered O’Hara and attacked Venture.
Venture briefly restrained O’Hara, but he broke free and discovered another new power:webbing. Similar to Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man, O’Hara could spin the weborganically from his forearms. O’Hara used the web to blind Venture and escaped after disabling hiscybernetic leg.
Spider-Man 2099
A few days later, O’Hara returned to his apartment, and. while he was updating Lyla on what happened,Stone arrived with three Public Eye officers. Unaware of O’Hara’s recent escapades, Stone still believed he was addicted to the Rapture and tried to tempt him with it.
In order to avoid telling Stone about his experiment, O’Hara agreed to return to work at Alchemax under the illusion of his need for Rapture, and to O’Hara’s surprise, hisformer boss Delgato was blamed for the explosion in the lab.
Lyla noticed O’Harawearing his Spider-Man costumeunderneath his work clothes and asked him why he didn’t destroy it. O’Hara thought Spider-Manstruck fear in Alchemax,and he could use him while he tries to research his current condition. From this point on, Spider-Man 2099 was born, and theNew Heroic Agebegan.
Time Traveling
Somehow, Wolverinebroke the space-time continuumin the past, and now Nueva York was experiencing random time distortions. One of these distortions was causingStone to fade from existence, which would cause O’Hara to disappear too.
O’Hara returns to the present time and teams up with Spider-Man, but he isn’t aware thatOtto Octavius is in control of Peter Parker’s body. During the mission, O’Hara almost killed hisgrandfather Tiberius “Ty” Stonebefore realizing who he was. After he managed to save the universe, he discovered that Stone in the year 2099destroyed the portaland trapped O’Hara in the present.
Now stranded in the present, O’Hara went undercover asMichael O’Maraand worked as his grandfather’s assistant. While he worked alongside him, O’Hara also worked throughout the city as Spider-Man. He helped fight theGoblin King’s army, though he was nearly killed by Octavius’s selfishness.
O’Hara managed to defeat all theSpider-Slayersand regrouped with Spider-Man, now with Parker back in control. While Parker fought the Goblin King, O’Hararescued the remaining Alchemax employees. After the Goblin King threat was neutralized, O’Hara went back to working undercover at Alchemax.
Spider-Verse Event Against The Inheritors
Following an incident with the Scorpion, O’Hara started seeingalternate versions of himself dying. Seeking answers, O’Hara found Parker and alsoSilk, as the group confronted the Inheritors, an interdimensional family who hunt down Spider-people.
They traveled to their safe zone onEarth-13, where O’Hara managed to return to the year 2099. Back in the future, O’Hara teamed up withLady Spider, and they were tasked with studying thecorpse of Daemos. They discovered the Inheritors wereusing clonesand returned to Earth-13, but the safe zone was abandoned.
Spider-Man 2099 and Lady Spider found the remains ofLeopardon, a giant robot that was destroyed by the Inheritors. The pair manage to repair Leopardon just in time for the final battle to defeat the Inheritors. Now with spider-verse safe, O’Harafinally returned to 2099.

Across The Spider-Verse
Miguel O’Hara in the Spider-Verse animated film series is from Earth-928B, a slightvariantof his Earth-928 self from the comics. He briefly appeared near the end of Into the Spider-Verse, but was not a major factor in the fight against Kingpin. However, he didkeep tabson Morales and what happened with the collider.
O’Hara built a device thatopened wormholesand allowed him to travel to different universes. He found a universe where he had a family but that Earth’s Miguel O’Hara died. Determined to have a family, O’Hara of Earth-928Btook his place,but eventually the universe began to fall apart.
O’Hara managed to escape the crumbing reality, but he wasemotionally overwhelmedby his failure to save everyone, including his daughter. Eventually, he created theSpider-Society, a team of Spider-People meant to protect the multiverse andrepair other universes that were affected by the collider incident.
O’Hara traveled to Earth-65B in pursuit of a renaissance variant of the Vulture, where he encounteredGwen Stacy. Despite her help in restraining the Vulture, O’Hara was against her joining the Spider-Society. However, afterStacy’s identity is revealed and her father tries to arrest her, Jessica Drew convinces him to let her join.
Although Morales saved his universe by stopping the collider, it still managed to affectJonathon Ohnn. An Alchemax scientist, Ohnn’s exposure to the collider altered his DNA and turned him intoThe Spot. Eventually, he was able to travel to other universes andused the colliders in each universe to boost his powers.
In his meeting with Morales, O’Hara tried to explain the concept ofcanon eventsand how these events must be experienced by every Spider-Person for theiruniverse to survive. These include receiving their powers from a spider, the death of their uncle, and also the death of their police chief.
Morales would not accept his father’s death as an inevitability, and escaped from O’Hara and the Spider Society. O’Hara traveled to Earth-1610B to intercept Morales, but the movie ended with O’Hara not knowing thatMorales was trapped on Earth-42.
Is Spider-Man 2099 A Vampire?
The short answer is no, Miguel O’Hara isnota vampire. O’Hara does have emphasized canine fangs thatproduce paralyzing non-toxic venom,but he doesn’t feed on blood.
There was a brief scene we see O’Hara inject himself with agreen liquid, and while it wasn’t explicitly explained, we can speculate it wasRaptureand this version of O’Hara is still addicted to the drug.
