Xbox Series Sis getting a beefier model, coming with 1TB of space. The Carbon Black 1TB SSD model will set you back $350, $50 more than the current Series S on the market, and $150 shy of theSeries X.

This new Xbox Series S was revealed right at the end of the Xbox Games Showcase and acts as a bridge between both available models of theXbox Seriesconsoles. This comes after fan complaints regarding the Series S’s space, withMicrosoftnow offering hardware that can store more games, but without the price tag of the Series X.

The Xbox Series S 1TB edition will become available on September 1 - just in time for a bunch of new releases later in the month. Pre-orders have already gone live, launching as soon as the console was shown off at the end of the showcase.

It’s important to note that this new Series S will not address one of the biggest complaints the console has received since its launch - its performance. While buyers knew they’d be making sacrifices with the cheaper model, it seems that many were unprepared for what we’d get, with many new releases not immediately supporting 60ps on the Series S. There are also some pretty noticeable graphical compromises, far from the performance of the Series X.

Despite this, ablog poston the Xbox website makes it clear that the new console will offer “the same next-gen speed and performance of our 512GB Series S”. In other words, this won’t fix the performance issues that Series S owners have complained about for some time. But it will let them have a bigger games library.

Of course, just like the original Series S, the carbon black model doesn’t have a disc drive. This is probably the most important detail for potential buyers to consider since this will tie you to Xbox’s own storefront, or Xbox Game Pass. That might sound simple in theory, but just remember, that means no physical copy gifts on birthdays - a pretty big sacrifice. Of course, that comes with a pretty big price drop too, $150 less than the Series X.

If you are interested in the Series X, however, there was good news at the showcase for you too. Phil Spencer announced that production on these consoles is increasing, hopefully easing supply issues globally.
