Your first year in Forgotten Valley is spent making friends, before the second brings new faces, crops, animals, and changes. In our guide, we cover all the things we’d recommend doing before the end of Year One in Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life to help you get ready for the changes in Year Two.

10Upgrade Your Tools

Though you’re never forced toupgrade your toolsin Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life, the updates are worth their weight in the gold you pay for most of them. Though the prices on them may feel steep up front, you’ll thank yourself as you go from tending to one spot at a time, to watering half your field in one pour.

For the most part, you’ll get thesewhen Van’s in town, but from Year Two onward, you’ll begin to see other townsfolk asking for tough-to-find items in exchange for the best-quality tools in the game.

9Make Friends With The Locals

With such a fun and uniquecast of charactersin this game - and with A Wonderful Life being regarded as one of the stranger Harvest Moon or Story of Seasons entries to begin with - it’s hardernotto fall in love with someone in Forgotten Valley. You have farmers, business folks, entrepreneurs, scientists, and more on the plate in town, so you’ll definitely want to get to know everyone.

Not only are the characters themselves delightful, but with so many rewards and achievements tied to your friendships, it definitely pays to spend some time each daypassing out giftsand shaking some hands.

8Know Which Seeds Make The Most Money

Unless you’re kicking back and taking each of the days in your Wonderful Life as they come at you, you’ve likely got money on your mind. We have some guides that offer more ways to make money, but as a farmer, themajority of your incomeis likely to be coming from the crops you’re planting.

That said, you’re able to also get the Seed Maker (maybe even for free, with the right friends) to get two seeds out of every one crop you insert, if you’d like to double every harvest and earn even more later. Every cropsells for a different amount, so try to plant the most valuable crops and get the most bang for your buck every time Takakura stops by to fill up your Deposit Box.

7Begin Buying More Expensive Livestock

You probably didn’t manage to get the Processing Room your first year in Forgotten Valley, and that’s okay - the game has seven chapters, so you’ve still got time! That said, if you do intend to begin making Milk and Cheese, beware that you’ll need some specialty cows to begin doing so even after Takakura’s construction on the farm is done.

6The Town Is Going To Change With You

We’ll spare you any direct spoilers in this list, but as it does in real life, time only flows one way in Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life, and you’ll absolutely feel the passage of time when you first step out of your house on Winter One of Year Two to head into town.

There will be new buildings in town, and you’ll meet a handful of new faces, too - even if youdoalso lose an old, familiar face at the turn of the year as well. All we’ll tell you is, be prepared to notice time passing you by.

5Get Ready To Make Hybrids

You start off with basic enough crops this year to get the lay of your new plots of land and experience in getting your hands dirty, but in Year Two of Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life, you’ll be able to begin making hybrid crops, and that’s whenthe real moneystarts pouring in.

Selling for vastly more than their parent crops, hybrid seeds areeasy enough to makeonce you befriend Vinnie, who Takakura brings home from the City with him early into Year Two. The sooner you plant hybrids to kick off the second year, the more money you’ll have by the end of it. You’ll need plenty of seeds from Vesta, so it’s best to save or start stocking now if you can afford to.

4Collect Recipes From Around Town

With some of those dozens of new kinds of crops you’re about to begin making next year, you’ll soon have a whole host ofnew recipesavailable to you in the kitchen at home. You may already see some salads that ask for vegetables you’ve never heard of, but you’ll come to know these hybrid harvests soon enough.

Visit the Nature Sprites up in the Forest every day - they’ve almost always got a new recipe for you. Some of the townsfolk may tell you recipes they know in conversation, or if you snoop through the papers and books in their homes. Snooping’s not creepy if it’s also delicious, right?

3Save Up For The Goat

The way the Goat works haschanged quite a lotsince the original Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life, but the fact remains that the Goat you can buy beginning in Year Two is a very solid money-maker, with its milk selling for vastly more than almost any kind of cow’s.

Except, one Goat costs, at most, 40,000g, which is a hefty sum to pay coming out of your first year. It’s additionally challenging because you’re only able to buy Goats during the Spring, so heed the warning that that large price tag is looming just after the turn of the year, if you’re intending to add a Goat to your farm.

2Feel Free To Date Around…

Each of the eight marriage candidates in Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life has a handful of Heart Events you’ll see as you grow closer to them, and although they may be somewhat romantic in nature occasionally, you aren’t locked into one marriage candidate during Year One.

This gives you a chance toget to knowall eight of the marriage candidates, to test the waters with everyone a bit before choosing who feels to you like forever. And while you have the entirety of Year One to decide (unless you hand that special someone a Blue Feather beforehand), youwillneed to choose someone you like best, because you can’t fly solo in A Wonderful Life for very long.

1… Before You’re Made Get Married To Start Year Two

Surprise! Takakura wasn’t just doing that uncomfortable old man flavor of razzing when he kept mentioning how you should meet someone and fall in love sooner than later - in Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life, you have no choice but toget marriedand have a child, which happens to kick off Year Two.

If you haven’t given someone a Blue Feather in Year One yet, then on Winter One of Year Two, you’ll be able to choose from a list ofthe marriage candidates, but only the ones who like you enough to actually marry you. This means that, if you didn’t spend quite enough time with your favorite marriage candidate, you may have to settle for a second-place special someone. And that, at least to us, doesn’t sound like a very Wonderful Life at all.
