The Legend of Zeldafans are wondering why one ofBreath of the Wild’s standout characters, Kass the Bard, is completely missing fromTears of the Kingdom.

Although Nintendo has been coy about putting an official timeline on it, it’s clear from the start of Tears of the Kingdom that some time has passed since Breath of the Wild, with fans estimating that it may be around five years. This time difference is mostly shown through all of its returning characters and how much they’ve grown or aged since Breath of the Wild. Although most characters do make a return, there’s one fan-favourite who is completely missing.

Anyone who’s explored Hyrule enough (or read the headline) knows who we’re talking about - Kass the Bard. Kass is a Rito minstrel who could be found in various locations in Breath of the Wild and sings an ancient song for Link whenever he runs into him. Kass doesn’t have much impact on the main story of the base game and can mostly be ignored if the player wants, but interacting with him really fleshes out his character and makes him one of the game’s most interesting characters.

In fact, Kass actually ends up playing an important role in the Ballad of Champions DLC, making appearances throughout the main quest and even gifting Link the picture of all the Champions at the end. Despite clearly being one of the more important side characters in the game, Kass makes no appearance in Tears of the Kingdom, leading fans to wonder where he might be.

The only reference to Kass that has been found in the base game was pointed out byRedditor SuperMK77 on the Tears of the Kingdom subreddit. You can find a Rito character named Penn who mentions Kass, saying, “A famous bard once perfected his craft in this place, studying the songs of this land”.

This comment leaves it fairly ambiguous as to what Kass is up to now, but does seem to indicate that he’s still around in Hyrule. His lack of a proper appearance in Tears of the Kingdom has fans wondering where he might be right now, and if he might return in the future. In fact, the top comment on SuperMK77’s Reddit post suggests that Penn’s dialogue once you finish his quest indicates that Kass might eventually make a return in DLC for Tears of the Kingdom, complete with a new questline.
