In Tactics, each character has a star sign. From Generics to Ramza and unique characters, each one has a sign and this means they do better in combat when they come up against characters who they will have Best, Worst, or Neutral compatibility with. In-game, this dictates hit rates, damage calculations, spell accuracy, and so much more.
Zodiac Compatibility Explained
If you’re new to Final Fantasy Tactics, you might not give a second thought to this parameter, but it can be make-or-break in some early-game fights when the difficulty spike is that much more noticeable.
Another factor between Zodiacs is a character’s gender matters in this calculation. UsingAries Ramzaas an example, the best compatibility forAries is a female Libra character.
Due to this, when you are looking to makea healer character for your party,you should picka female unit with the Libra star sign.
Doing so will mean that Ramza and your team healer havethe best zodiac compatibility,meaningbuffssuch as Protect, Haste, Shell, Raise, and healing magic will never miss.
If you used an Aries Ramza with a party member who has the worst compatibility, which in this case would bea male Libra,then the hit rate for spells would be severely reduced.
Crucial spells you never want to miss, such as Raise or Cure,would miss so often that it would hinderyour progress significantly.
It is, essentially, a double-edged sword. If you end up in a fight with an enemy unit that is a female Libra, they will have the best compatibility against Ramza, meaning they willdo extra damage.

Other than best and worst compatibility, each star sign has good and poor compatibility as well. Good and poor aren’t as extreme as best and worst, but you still don’t want to have characters on your team with poor compatibility.

If you find that your charactersaren’t doing as much damageas you might calculate or expect,chances are they have bad zodiac compatibilityand you should consider using a character with better compatibility to attack them instead.
The simple fact is that Zodiac compatibility has adramatic effect on several parametersin combat so the more you know about it, the better equipped you are to plan and approach tougher battles.
If you plan, you can make it so Ramza will haveworse compatibility with some of the tougher bossesin the game you face later on. This means that both Ramza and the bosses woulddo less damage to each other.

Depending on the opposite zodiac, the worst compatibility always occurs when two charactersare the same gender.
